We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Luis Tobon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Luis below.
Luis, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I started growing because a college biology professor gave us a tomato plant to grow and do a report ion it for class. I got the variety Green Zebra. I attempted to grow it but it didn’t do so well. I didn’t end up getting any fruit from it but I was bit by the gardening bug.
We bought a house soon after that and there was a section of the backyard where there had been a garden previously. That was all I needed and it was off to the races. Ever since then; I’ve been growing all kinds of things. I ended up growing Green Zebras a season or two in and once I tasted it; it became my favorite variety. I try to grow it every year now.

Luis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I originally started with a blog with weekly updates. I didn’t get a lot of attention on it but it was more for me to just keep logs. I have deleted that blog and now run everything on the common platforms. Instagram, YouTube and some gardening postings on Threads that’s mixed in with other topics. I never really got into Twitter.
I’ve gotten brand deals and work with a few of brands.
As far as customer; I would say just the people that consume the content on social media. They may go out and buy things with my affiliate links and I make a little there. I haven’t qualified for ad revenue / monetization via YouTube yet.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Just start posting. They say hashtags aren’t as powerful as before but I’m still using them. You also need to interact with other accounts. Commenting, sharing their content and just being social. It is called “social media” after all. Social media is great for us introverts because we want to get our story out there and our experiences but aren’t always able to talk to people in person. This way; you can do it on your own terms. Overall, just keep sharing on socials and interact with other accounts.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I don’t sell anything myself; directly. It is all about affiliate marketing. I do have brand deals so that brings in revenue. I dont accept or promote any product or service that I don’t believe in. I won’t promote it if I don’t personally use it.
