Yolanda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The story of how Rosie’s Recovery Center came to be begins with the deeply personal and painful experience of witnessing my daughter’s battle with substance abuse. It’s a journey marked by a rollercoaster of emotions – from the initial shock and worry about Rosie’s addiction to the relentless search for the right care and support that would help her overcome this affliction. My family, including Rosie’s five children, undoubtedly went through moments of despair, hope, frustration, and a burning desire to find a solution.
In the midst of this painful journey, we were confronted with a harsh reality – that the existing system often falls short in providing the specialized care and support that individuals like Rosie require. This realization likely led to a feeling of helplessness and the understanding that there was a significant problem that needed to be addressed.
The idea for Rosie’s Recovery Center was born out of the desperation to find a better way to help those struggling with substance abuse. It was fueled by the love and empathy I felt for Rosie and the countless others who were suffering in a similar manner. The logic behind my decision to start this endeavor was driven by a genuine need in the community. I knew that countless families were going through the same ordeal, unable to find the appropriate care and support for their loved ones.
I believed that Rosie’s Recovery Center could offer a unique approach to addiction recovery. It would be a place where individuals would receive not only professional treatment but also the warmth, understanding, and empathy that comes from a family’s personal experience with addiction. This fusion of professional expertise and personal empathy would set Rosie’s Recovery Center apart from other treatment facilities.
What got me most excited about this idea was the potential to make a difference in the lives of others who were facing the same challenges that Rosie faced. It was a way to honor her memory and to ensure that her struggle would not be in vain. It was a chance to create a place where individuals battling addiction could find hope, support, and ultimately a path towards recovery.
In establishing Rosie’s Recovery Center, I’ve channeled my grief and love for Rosie into a worthwhile endeavor that has the power to change lives. It’s not just a business; it’s a heartfelt response to a deeply personal tragedy, a commitment to addressing a pressing problem in your community, and a tribute to the memory of my daughter. Rosie’s legacy will live on through the positive impact the center will have on countless others, and in that, her spirit and your love for her will continue to shine brightly.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Following the tragic loss of my daughter Rosie to a fentanyl overdose, the grief and pain that engulfed our family were overwhelming. It would have been entirely understandable for me to succumb to the sorrow and allow it to paralyze me. However, Rosie’s memory and the determination to honor her legacy served as a powerful force that ignited my resilience.
In the early stages of creating Rosie’s Recovery Center, I encountered numerous challenges, both personal and logistical. There were moments when self-doubt and grief threatened to derail the project. But I remembered the profound and lasting impact Rosie’s struggle had on our family and the importance of preventing others from enduring a similar fate.
The resilience that emerged in those moments allowed me to press forward, even when the road ahead seemed insurmountable. I sought out the expertise of professionals in the addiction recovery field, formed partnerships with organizations dedicated to the same cause, and tirelessly worked to bring Rosie’s Recovery Center to life. The journey was arduous, marked by long nights, difficult decisions, and emotional hurdles, but I was unwavering in my commitment.
What kept me going was the knowledge that every step taken in establishing the center was a step closer to helping individuals and families in need. Rosie’s memory became a beacon of resilience, guiding me through the darkest of times. I drew strength from the desire to create a space where people could find healing, hope, and support.
The resilience that emerged from this journey is not just a personal triumph but a testament to the enduring love for my daughter and the unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those battling addiction. It serves as a reminder that, in the face of tragedy, resilience can be a powerful force for change and healing. Rosie’s Recovery Center stands as a testament to that resilience, offering hope and support to all those who seek it.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that I could always control and fix everything, especially in the context of helping my daughter Rosie through her struggle with substance abuse. The backstory behind this unlearning is deeply intertwined with my personal journey and the challenges I faced in trying to support her.
As a parent, my instinct was to protect and guide my children, and when Rosie’s substance abuse issues emerged, I believed that I could single-handedly fix the situation. I tried to take on the role of both caregiver and problem solver, which led to an immense burden of responsibility. My unshakeable belief that I could control and resolve every aspect of Rosie’s addiction was both unrealistic and unsustainable.
The turning point came when I realized that addiction is a complex, multifaceted issue that couldn’t be resolved solely by my efforts. I learned that I couldn’t force someone to recover, and I couldn’t control the choices Rosie made. Her journey to recovery had to be hers, and she needed to be an active participant in it.
The lesson I had to unlearn was that I couldn’t “fix” Rosie’s addiction; I could only support her on her path to recovery. This realization was not easy to accept and required a shift in mindset. It meant acknowledging my limitations and understanding that I couldn’t control the outcome. I had to learn to provide love, empathy, and resources but also respect her autonomy and choices.
In the end, this unlearning process was not just about recognizing my limitations but also about fostering open communication, seeking professional help, and being a source of unwavering support for Rosie. While I couldn’t “fix” her addiction, I could be there for her, help her find the right treatment, and offer love and understanding throughout her journey.
This lesson of unlearning the need for control and embracing the importance of support and empathy became a central part of my journey, and it continues to be a core principle of Rosie’s Recovery Center. Understanding that we cannot control the choices of those we care about but can provide the necessary support and resources is crucial in the field of addiction recovery. It’s a lesson that was hard-earned through personal experience and one that informs the compassionate approach we take in helping individuals and families facing addiction at Rosie’s Recovery Center.
