We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Neaisha Seawright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Neaisha below.
Neaisha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Yes, I am so much more happier. I love the freedom that comes with being able to make my own schedule. I’ll admit days I miss having a “regular” job but it’s always short lived. I usually feel that way on my slow weeks, it can be hard navigating through those times of uncertainty. Whenever I have those moments I just write out the pros and cons of working for myself versus someone else and honestly it’s just never that serious. Ha!
Neaisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So I’ve always worked in manufacturing, which can be very demanding. I was working 7days a week for months at a time. Once I became a mother I knew something had to change, so I started researching potential careers. The beauty industry was the one that intrigued me the most. Having the luxury of making my own schedule allows me to be very involved with anything pertaining to my son or family without being penalized. I provide an array of services ranging from natural hair styles to braids/weave. I believe what sets me apart from others is my personality and the way I am genuinely interested in getting to know my clients on a personal level. It’s not just business with me, I remember every little detail about all of my clients. I will check up on them if I hadn’t heard from them in a while just to make sure they are doing ok, especially the ones who may be going through a hard time. That’s what I’m most proud of. If you come sit with me you won’t be disappointed!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Honestly, just putting myself out there. Making a website, introducing myself to people while I’m out and about. I had to get over the “what if?” stage. At first I was always asking what if it doesn’t work?,what if I don’t get any clients? Until a coworker of mine asked me what if it does work? You won’t know until you put yourself out there!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Starting out it was very hard. Trying to balance school, working full time & being a new mom was tough. I went through so much during cosmetology school that I contemplated quitting. I lost everything ( except my faith) and had to start over from scratch. By the grace of God everything worked out in the end.
