We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Arthur Abramov. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Arthur below.
Arthur, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
No Filters Project, a documentary photography art project. This project is my Baby.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My Name Arthur, 39. A Filmmaker, a Published Artist and a Photographer. I want to talk about ‘ ‘No Filters Project ” which is all about healing, from society’s norms and frames in terms of Beauty Standards and normalizing the body as it is naturally in all its forms as a subject of passion and beauty, similar to the Romance of the Baroque Era. Women come into the project and join the activities offered(photography) in it. As they get to know the person who’s leading the project, a male. I have a ‘Say’ about beauty standards and am not afraid to share my thoughts loud and clear. I need to say no more if one sees the photos i create with the women coming for a shoot with me, the art speaks for itself.
It all started 4 years ago, with one photo shoot I did for fun with a lady friend who is a plus-size model. The images came out very bold, a beautiful fat woman shining and photographed as a goddess and we immediately posted on Instagram, and it was crazy. I got a lot of positive feedback and suddenly many plus-size women wanted to get photographed by me. So I created the ‘No Filters Project’. Where every woman is beautiful in her own way and there are no rules or society’s beauty standards applied because this project lets everyone feel beautiful as they are.
2 years ago I published a calendar featuring 12 images taken for the project an A First issue of the Project’s Magazine featuring the most beautiful images of the project.
I’m a male, straight and married with children. The question is: Why would I photograph women Nude as if I’m Peter Paul Rubens? I was trying to answer this question honestly too many times and after so many years I can tell that : First of all, I love Art, Second, I’m attracted to women. Thus the combination of both makes the art look very
Passionate and made with love, that is my secret. And Lastly it’s my way to change the world to be a better place.
P.S
This project has made me so many friends, I mean how in the world would I have met so many good people if not for the project? Thanks to the project I have met many interesting people.
Still to this day I publish once a year a Call For Entry for a big Production where a group of women get together and we create Art together, after the Shoot we publish the images, talk about it and celebrate it.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, Susan Sontag “On Photography”. She is a Feminist and thinks outside of the box and I learned so much listening to her speaking and reading her thoughts. Reading about the Female gaze and the Male gaze. It gave me another perspective about Art.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To be free of any stress, It’s like going to the beach and enjoying yourself as no one is watching. Changing the world.
