We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Giorgia Cantarini a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Giorgia , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The project I currently curate for Pitti Uomo is called S|STYLE and was born in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 to fill a strong need in terms of communication and product. On the one hand, completely subverting the concept of green = uncool and on the other, offering clothing and accessories with production requirements with low impact on the environment, with certified, recovered, recycled and innovative hybrid fabrics. The selection of the project I curated for Pitti Uomo is based on social and environmental responsibility criteria, which are the basis of the DNA of each of the participating brands. Always careful to create a quality product, it is the style that stands out. Scouting is international, and is the result of careful investigation through international fashion weeks, awards, the most prestigious fashion universities and even Instagram. Since the first edition, Sustainable Style has been a hub of talents of the caliber of Y/Project – present with the special Evergreen capsule and winner of ANDAM Prize in 2020 – and Uniforme (winner of ANDAM Prize in July 2021) as well as LVMH Prize finalists such as Phipps and Federico Cina. Furthermore, the language of Sustainable Style is irreverent, suitable for communicating in a positive and non-coercive way, setting up a contemporary dialogue with the public thanks to the use of social media and technology. In June 2023 the project was backed up by Kering, that involved Kering Mil (Material Innovation Lab) the research department devoted to sustainable textiles and techniques sourcing that gave the designers certified materials to create a special look part of the collection they showed at the tradeshow.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Creative, results-driven fashion industry professional with a passion for fashion, emerging talents and sustainability. Proven experience in editing and styling for online & print publications, as well as for luxury through engaging editorial content. Storytelling: from content to editorial styling, from identifying a tone of voice to choosing the right visual outputs, from editorial strategy to execution. I work in partnership with brands for their strategy (communication & image) as well as for campaigns, fashion shows or social media content. My experiences span from working for publications such as Glamour, Vogue Italia, L’Officiel Italia as well as celebrity styling for people of the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Rita Ora, Kit Harington, and Italian music band Coma Cose, campaigns and social contents for Iceberg, Tod’s, Sportmax, Roger Vivier and many more. Scouting is also one of my skills, I created and curate a responsible and cutting-edge brands’ selection for Pitti Uomo tradeshow.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I am driven to navigate the fashion world with purpose. Whatever I do has a message to deliver, starting from style, or writing , everything I do is deeply personal and an extension of myself. I learned that attention to details is always what makes a difference in whatever project you challenge yourself with. I cannot go on set without having prepared a moodboard and everything must be perfect. I don’t like to work on short deadlines but it happens a lot, so I want to put every effort possible in found my job at the highest level possible no matter the condition or the budget. I prefer to turn down jobs if I don’t feel comfortable about it or if I don’t feel I can provide a good service.

Have you ever had to pivot?
