Kay Nine Tha Boss, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
I remember when I went on my first independent tour. I only had enough money for gas in my car and food. I didn’t have enough money for a hotel, so the plan was to sleep in my car. I ended up getting into a car accident and totaled it just days before my tour was scheduled to start. I had no way to get there and nowhere to sleep even if i did. I decided I would use my gas money to catch the train and sleep in the streets after each show. I was willing to do whatever it took to continue with my tour. The day before I planned on leaving. One of my homies sister allowed me to use her car. I always look back at that time and it reminds me how hungry I was. I was willing to make whatever sacrifices necessary to get my name out there. Fast forward to the present me and I am still just as dedicated.

Kay Nine Tha Boss, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began rapping at age 12. The first time I heard my older brothers friend freestyle at a party, I was hooked. I practiced my craft for many years before I decided to take it serious. With little to no direction on how to turn it into a business and tap into the industry. I met a good friend of mine who had was older and had already experienced some level of success from music. He taught me the ends and outs of the industry and how to create music on a professional level. Before we met, I was recording my music on a low budget recording program, a stage mic, and a dj mixer. He educated me on studio standard equipment that would help separate me from others. . I saved up money I was making from hustling in the streets and bought everything needed to sound good. Im well known by others in the music industry for my grind and dedication. Ive never taken a day off. Im always promoting something new.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I understood the importance of marketing my music when I first began my career. I always wore many hats and never asked for help. I eventually gained the proper knowledge down the line on how to properly market my music.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The fans make it all worth it. When I run across fans online or in person, its a good feeling. It lets me know all of my hard work is paying off.
