Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samara Gonzalez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Samara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
Samara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a first generation American local to DFW. My entire family is from Monterrey, Mexico, and Spanish is my first language. One of the ways I learned English as a kid was actually by just watching movies. I fell in love with storytelling and could just not get enough. I remember spending my weekends as a kid trying to watch every movie on the IMDb top 250, trying to soak up as much as I could and analyzing why certain scenes were so impactful, why a piece of dialogue worked or why it didn’t, how a director could tell a whole story with a single shot. I’ve said this before, but the moment between the last shot and the end credits of a great film is my favorite feeling. I could wax poetic all day! I’ve always been obsessive about films and known I need to be a part of it.
I had my start acting in theatre and transitioned into film and television over the last couple of years. I’m still learning a lot but I feel so privileged to be a part of this industry. The thought of hopefully connecting with even one person through film/TV is what I’ve always wanted to do and what inspires me to always work on my craft.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love getting to collaborate with other creatives. That magic when everyone is bringing their own thing to the scene and it evolves and takes on a life of its own…I’ll never get tired of that. It’s crazy knowing that I get paid to do something I would pay to do. Hopefully one day I can be a part of something that inspires people the way I was inspired, and that’ll be the most rewarding thing of all.
