Alright, Emma thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Emma Loizides – Artist
Emma , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a cityscape painter and I enjoy painting the urban landscape and an inspired by travel and places I’ve visited. I have been painting and exhibiting for over 18 years and made the big step to become a full time painter for just over 2 years.
I exhibit my work internationally and sell original paintings and limited edition prints online. My candy-coloured street scenes and idealised landscapes are about escapism. I take out the people and cars, portraying a moment of calm.
I spent a few years living in Las Vegas and had fun travelling the west coast of America. Beaches, sunsets and palm trees feature in my paintings and the quirky buildings and spacious landscape have influenced my work. I love Americana and painting gumball machines, juke boxes, taco trucks or fast-food menus.
I take inspiration from pop art and artists Jasper Johns and Wayne Thiebaud. I hope that my colourful paintings are uplifting and bring a smile or moment of nostalgia to the viewer.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is having the opportunity to do what I love every day. Previously when I had a corporate job I would squeeze in an hour of painting before or after work or on my lunch break but it felt rushed and under pressure. I feel very blessed to focus more time on my art and the freedom to paint when I want to, I feel like my work has improved immensely since taking a bit of the pressure off.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are so many resources available to us now that it’s really hard to choose. I listen to a lot of podcasts whilst I paint which are really useful, at the moment I am enjoying “The School of Greatness” by Lewis Howes. Awaken the Giant within by Tony Robbins significantly impacted me in many ways. I remember when I was working in banking in a job I wasn’t enjoying at the time I was reading this book, it said make a decision right now to be happy. I took it literally, I went back to work and handed my notice in. Think and Grow Rich is another favourite, and lastly “The Artist’s way” is another great book for creatives
