We were lucky to catch up with Floyd Grant recently and have shared our conversation below.
Floyd , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you think about spending on the little things / small joys when finances are tight?
I’ve learned that everything should have balance. In some of my tough times I’ve learned to scale down on leisure spending, spending that can wait or understanding what’s more important impressing others or making sure things are flowing smoothly at home or career.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born in Atlanta Ga, most of my family lives in Atlanta. I wear many hats… Music Artist, IT Leader, Band Leader, & so much more. I started recording music at 16 in 2003 but it wasn’t until 2010 that I took my craft more serious and became a true Artist. Although I don’t physically help solve problems in music but I do believe that music can heal the soul.
What set me apart in the beginning was my drive and willingness to beat the odds and even if I had to walk alone I was going to get to the next level. Now I believe my personality… fashion and vocals set me apart!
I’m most proud of my growth in many areas.. my work ethic … my ability through God to bring people together from all walks of life. And validating myself vs seeking it from things or people.
In music I am a Recording Artist, Band Leader, vocal producer, songwriter & Marketing & Promoter.
In IT I am Global Leader with a 500 fortune company, helping stakeholders leverage their data into insights to drive business decisions.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There are times when you have to be honest where you are on all levels as a businessman. Knowing when it’s time to scale up or down, when you need to go through a deal or cancel it. I’ve had a few times in both personal or career wise where I had to scale down on accepting business if it wasn’t meeting my current needs. Being at peace when contracts change and aren’t in my favor .. it took me years to get to that place of peace.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn that people aren’t me… so I needed to learn where people are in order to determine if we could continue in a relationship of sorts.
There was a time years ago where I was under so much stress and anger because I was in relationships that were truly one sided… I was giving and giving but they weren’t reciprocating. When you’re pouring into stuff and never receiving a return it becomes draining regardless if it’s from the kindness of the heart .. it’s a lot of work and it doesn’t feel great.. but then one day God showed me that I didn’t have to stay…. And that I’m worthy… and that’s what I stand on today… I’m worthy and I deserve everything I give plus more!
