We were lucky to catch up with Caleb & Madison Petty recently and have shared our conversation below.
Caleb & Madison, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Our most meaningful project to date is our latest album, “Outlaw”. This was our homecoming album all about longing for the return to the simple life after living in the city for years. Not only that, but this was our first project that we co-wrote as a married couple. With the themes being home and family, we thought that it would be only fitting to incorporate our family into the entire record. Our sisters, parents, even our dog and our grandparents are weaved in somewhere on the album. Getting all of our family in the studio at one time was quite the experience and one we will never forget.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We both grew up in a small town, going to the same schools, events, being involved in the same activities, but somehow never crossed paths until high school. Both of us have been involved in music in some form since we were kids, but that flourished even more once we started dating. From playing in different bands in high school, to going off to college in Nashville, TN to study music, it’s been a wild ride. We have gone from rock, to blues, and somehow returning back to country music, which is what we were both raised on. We love music because we love creating and expressing ourselves as well as seeing our music relate to other people. We are two simple living southern people who have a deep love for music and we write about real life things that other people can relate to, there is no smoke and mirrors. With our music and image, what you see is what you get.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There are many rewarding parts of being a creative, the first one being writing music. There is no greater feeling than writing a song that really hits home with you and means a lot. When we record that song and hear the full thing come to life it is incredibly rewarding to hear it all come together. Our songs mean so much to us and they are our personal creations. The second most rewarding part is hearing how these songs relate to our fans and audience. They mean so much to us and it is awesome to see how other people react to them and how they interpret our songs. Some songs really hit home with us and don’t really translate to other people and other songs we think aren’t our best are some of our most well received songs. It’s a really interesting journey to see a song in its beginning stages and then see it come to life and hit the ears of people who can relate to it.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The ultimate goal for us is to express ourselves and to create something that relates to our audience. Aside from that, we have such a supportive base around us being our parents, grandparents and other family. They have supported us and our dreams since day one and they have done anything they can to support our music and our artistic career path. Making them proud is just as high up on our importance list.
