We were lucky to catch up with Yonatan Levy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yonatan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I have worked on has been the decision to pursue an artistic music career. After nearly 10 years of producing and DJing in clubs and music festivals around the world, I am really excited about the direction my music career is headed.
I have had the pleasure of writing and releasing music with some of the most talented producers and record labels in the industry, including a four-track EP that was released in May 2023 on Germany-based Inhale-Exhale, in collaboration with Jesusdapnk and Camille Cruz. A recent solo EP that will be released on 11.03.2023 with San Diego-based record label, Music is 4 Lovers, and a new single coming out towards the end of 2023 with Russia-based, Mole Music.
A few years ago I started my Soirée mix series as an outlet to showcase the music I love that doesn’t always make it into my club sets. After three years of self-publicized mixes, I recently signed on with Bloop London Radio to host my own radio show on the second Friday of each month (9:00-10:00 PM GMT+1). You can stream Soirée Radio on Soundcloud, Mixcloud, and of course, on the Bloop London Radio airwaves.
Yonatan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always considered myself a music lover. Funny enough, I did not grow up listening to electronic music by any means. It wasn’t until I attended my first music festival in the summer of 2012 that I felt drawn to the culture and feeling of all things house music. Fast forward 10 years and the passion and love for this scene and culture is still burning stronger than ever.
If there is one thing I hope listeners can take away from my music is to remain positive and know the feeling or situation you are in will always change. A mantra I often lean on during dark times is, “This too shall pass”. No matter the situation you find yourself in, just put one foot in front of the other, and keep moving forward.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
With easy access to technology and creative outlets, I think it is easy for the markets to become oversaturated with “cookie-cutter” type art. If you think about the most successful artists, the ones who stand out are usually the artists who are brave enough to go against the grain. Take a risk, do something unorthodox.
Society and people who enjoy art, in general, will always appreciate fresh and new ideas. On the contrary, it is also up to society to really dig into the aspects of art that have not yet been explored. Your favorite and most popular artist was once a beginner starting out with no fans.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Tutorials, tutorials, tutorials. You don’t know what you don’t know, and the best way to continue to grow as an artist is to never stop learning. We are blessed to live in the age of technology. Utilize it to the best of your ability.
