We recently connected with Destiny Monique and have shared our conversation below.
Destiny Monique , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.
Getting into business with family can either hurt or help you, so even though it’s family be sure to choose the right relatives. Our family business is in real estate, I have been in business with my parents for many years now. We work very well together because my parents are an open book. If I have any questions they don’t sugar coat it, I get the real deal. I know I can rely on my family to tell me the good and bad when it comes to any transaction. For example we just started a short term rental here in Los Angeles and one reason we were able to get up and running so fast is because of the experience my parents have. Although they live in Texas them being able to be available for any questions or unforeseen obstacles as mentors greatly helped the process move forward quicker.
The pitfalls can be if you choose the wrong relative and they take advantage of you. You know which ones in your family are lazy and or don’t have your vision. At the end of the day they are your long time business partner and you have to keep this in mind.
I would only want my children to join my business (real estate or creatively) if I see interest. They might have other talents or interests outside of my business that they shine at so I would always support that in them. I will be investing their money for them though. Lol

Destiny Monique , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I currently work in two different industries. Real estate is where I invest my money, Social media is where I am able to be creative. The two platforms I use mostly are YouTube and instagram. I think alot of my discipline came from my parents and also the military. I come from a long line of strong women so that was instilled in me a long time ago. The Marines helped me become even more structured, focused and confident.
My back story is probably a little different than most. I went from the Marines to Modeling. I was born in Houston Texas, at the age of 17 I joined the Marines and that is what brought me to California. I was stationed in Sandiego for 4 years. I would spend my weekends in Los Angeles and that is where I started to get the modeling acting bug. The last 2 years in the Marines I was working as a model in LA when I could get off. When I joined the Marines my plan was to retire after 20 years from the Marine Corps. I loved my time in the Military but LA opened up a whole new world to me. I moved up to LA after my term and started modeling and also doing a little acting. I was able to book tons of magazine work, a series regular on a tv show and also even had billboard’s all over LA and Hollywood. When social media started to get really big I found another outlet to model on which was instagram. I started with glamour and swimsuit modeling first and moved on to fashion and lifestyle. I started my lifestyle YouTube channel during Covid. I now have grown both and I am currently working with tons of brands consistently.
On my instagram I post Alot of fashion and lifestyle photos/videos. I love to give ideas and inspiration on what to wear per occasion and also new trends. I also love posting some of my favorite restaurants around town or travel content. On my YouTube channel I post Hauls, Unboxing videos and Vlogs. I love to show outfit ideas there as well, new products or gift ideas and also the occasional vlog of what I am up to.
I am most proud about being authentic on social media, I do care about my following. Youtube has helped me open up even more. I’ve shown you from start to finish how we set up our short term rental, I’ve introduced you to my family and friends. I also pick and choose which brands to work with depending on what I think my audience would like. I am big on showing you quality and and using bright lighting so you can see exactly what you get for your money when it comes to fashion and products.
I would love to invite you to my social media world. I love hearing from everyone in the comments. YouTube: Adaywithdestiny Ig: IamDestinyMonique

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how you developed them?
I love this question. YouTube has become something more than I ever imagined as far as multiple revenue streams. Everyone always talks mostly about the monetization but that is only one way that YouTube can bring in revenue for you. For some people monetization is actually the smallest form of YouTube revenue for their channel.
Brand deals bring in a lot of revenue for my channel. The great part has been working with many of them on a regular basis consistently. Every season new clothing and new products come out which keeps me in businesses. You can negotiate a one time fee or a production fee plus commission.
Another way to bring in income is when I promote my short term rentals on my platforms. Both my families beach condo and our LA unit are up on my channel. I am able to show up on google just through marketing videos. I also have reels posted at the top of my Instagram channel which is another way of advertising my properties. I plan on growing these short term rentals to more and also we have big plans in the future for bigger real state endeavors.

Have you ever had to pivot?
My turning point felt like starting all over. I started with Glamour modeling, In doing this I had built a male following. Love my men but females buy more online. From a business stand point I needed to now transition to getting more of a female audience. In doing this I noticed it lead to more brand deals and more commission. This was not a short process I’m still working on it.
