We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angelica Arredondo Holley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Angelica, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea

Turning an idea into a successful business is a journey filled with obstacles, and significant learning experiences. Many people dream of entrepreneurship but often hesitate to take the leap due to perceived challenges or the pursuit of a perfect moment. The truth is, there is no perfect moment.

I have always had a creative side and a passion for bringing people joy. What better way to spread this than to launch my own business.This interview tells the story of overcoming life’s challenges and seizing the opportunity to create a successful business born from passion and determination.
I started with the idea I would create my own work for my children’s birthday. I created and designed some unforgettable memories for my children and family members.

The passing of my father presented a profound obstacle in my life. It served as a wake-up call, reminding me of the fragility of life and the fleeting nature of time. After balancing out my grief, 2 years later, I felt an urgent need to transform my ideas into action. Both my mother and father were unwavering pillars of support for me, but it is my father’s voice that resonates within me, urging me to persist in pursuing what I believe in. And today, that is precisely what I am determined to do.

The challenges I’ve overcome have taught me valuable lessons. I’m not sure I would have been prepared to take on the role of business ownership 10 years ago, as it takes the mindset, ambition, and drive I’ve developed over time to navigate the complexities of the business world.

I’m grateful for where my business stands today and the role I’ve played in it’s success. While I’ve always had the entrepreneurial spirit, I’m particularly thankful for the obstacles I’ve faced, as they’ve helped shape the forward-thinking entrepreneur I am today.

Nonetheless, I’m proud of the journey that led me here and look forward to what the future holds. All it takes is a little faith.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One crucial lesson I had to unlearn stemmed from a misconception within my own mind. I believed that I needed to match the innovative designs and artistic prowess of other balloon artists. The fear of losing customers and jeopardizing my business consumed me.

Determined to improve, I took up research and enrolled in classes to enhance my creativity. Gradually, I accepted that my skills may not parallel those of more experienced competitors. Embracing my own journey, I reset my mindset and acknowledged my unique position. Much to my surprise, my client base expanded, and just 1 year and 7 months later, my business exceeded expectations.

As a co-teacher in the district, I single-handedly craft most of the designs for my business. My daughter Phoenix, a creative force herself, offers invaluable help. Since leaving my job isn’t an option right now, I balance it alongside this side hustle until greater income materializes.

To fellow business-minded dreamers: Pursue your ambitions and embrace your distinct creative flair. Avoid comparing yourself to others because doing so only distances you from your true potential.

Every obstacle good or bad that I have faced has brought me to where I am today. Each of us has a unique story that fuels our motivation.
