Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristine & Charles Lopez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We’re a husband and wife team who specialize in wedding day photography. We’re based in Los Angeles, California but travel worldwide to document such special seasons in others’ lives, and we truly could not feel more grateful that this is our job. When we first picked up a camera, we were in two completely different industries. We were both working full-time and hardly saw each other from our schedules.
Our first experience with a camera was actually on our one year wedding anniversary, where Kristine had gifted a used camera to Charles to document their trip to Yosemite. From there, we both fell in love with the craft. We came back home eager for more, and ended up documenting weddings and proposals for a few friends. One thing led to the next, and eventually we found ourselves in the wedding industry. When we first got married, we never imagined life would lead us to building a business we love together.
The start was a bit of a rollercoaster as we learned to figure out what we loved. Initially, we started off creating wedding films, and then moved on to adventurous elopements, and now to specializing in traditional wedding days. We were drawn to the little in-between moments and many of the quieter ones that often go unnoticed between couples and their communities. From there, we created a style that we’d describe as a blend of modern day photojournalism mixed in with an artful and editorial approach. We document wedding days for couples who are looking for that creative element, but not at the expense of still capturing the genuine and honest moments of their day. While we’d describe our style as true-to-life in its colors, we also do not stay away from a moodier vibe nor ones that feel bright and airy. Rather, we play off the personalities of our couples, as well as the environment we find ourselves in. A lot of our inspiration is drawn from unique light and its dancing shadows, human connection and community, quieter and fleeting moments hidden within the day, and of course each couples’ unique love.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
TW: child / infant loss.
This part may get a little personal and can be a sensitive topic to some, so I added a little trigger warning in the beginning. When we first went full time, we experienced a deep and devastating loss— the loss of our son during childbirth. It was a deep grief and the darkest storm we had to walk through together. I mention this part of our story because it also completely changed us to our core. It changed a lot of how we viewed life, community, and even the commitment and resilience we found in marriage and marital vows.
When it was time for us to go back to work, we stepped into each intimate space and celebration with a realization of how meaningful these moments were. We felt such a deep gratitude to be a part of it, and realized the role we got to play in preserving these memories for our clients.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One of the most rewarding parts of being an artist (particularly in the wedding industry) is being able to observe raw & organic moments and tell it artistically. It’s already an honor to witness and document candid moments on its own, but it feels particularly rewarding when we are also able to find ways to tell it creatively. We love being able to weave art and life together to tell each story in a unique and compelling way. It’s always a joy to see finished galleries come together, and see the different ways we were able to incorporate unique elements into honest and genuine moments.
