We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DG Adams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
DG, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I was performing in musicals from a pretty early age (12?). I carried on with that throughout high school, and it seemed like a natural progression to study acting in university and theatre school.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well I was actor/singer for many years before becoming a singer-songwriter. I wrote poems and songs throughout my youth but didn’t do it professionally till 2011 when I put out my first record “Feminine Endings”. Then I was hooked! The studio became my favourite place to be.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Support music and arts education in schools! That’s where I got most of my early inspiration. I was blessed with some terrific teachers, and luckily I also had parents who took me to plays and concerts. I was a symphony goer from a pretty young age.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
The best insight I can give is that creation is a powerful force that likely needs multiple outlets. Don’t limit yourself. Maybe besides your main discipline, say songwriting, you might also paint. The various arts feed each other. Just look at Joni Mitchell!
