We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Asia Bonetto a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Asia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I find immense satisfaction in my creative pursuits, but like anyone, I do occasionally wonder what it would be like to have a ‘regular’ job. The stability and predictability of such a job can be tempting at times. However, my commitment to being a voice for the voiceless and bringing important messages to the world through my creative work keeps me motivated and dedicated to this path. The occasional curiosity about other possibilities is natural, but it hasn’t swayed me from my creative journey.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most gratifying aspects of being an artist, in my perspective, lies in the ability to serve as a conduit for the thoughts and emotions of many. When individuals approach me and express that they have found a connection with the films I create, it offers a profound sense of fulfillment and purpose.
As an artist, I have the privilege of becoming a voice for those who might not have had the opportunity or means to express their own feelings and experiences. Through my work, I can touch upon universal themes and emotions that resonate with a diverse audience. The power of storytelling allows me to delve into the human condition and explore a myriad of experiences, ultimately giving a voice to the unspoken.
When someone tells me that they relate to my movies, it’s not just a personal achievement but a testament to the universality of art. It’s a reminder that the stories we tell have the potential to bridge gaps, foster understanding, and connect people from various backgrounds. This is where the true reward of being an artist lies – in the knowledge that the narratives we create have the capacity to inspire, console, and unite.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
At the core of my creative journey lies a passionate commitment to raising awareness about the events and issues unfolding in our world. As a film producer, my foremost mission is to craft narratives infused with crucial messages, often by narrating the untold stories of those who were previously voiceless.
My creative drive is rooted in a deep sense of responsibility to shed light on the pressing concerns and stories that deserve to be shared with a wider audience. By choosing to tell these stories, I aim to give a voice to the silenced, to amplify the experiences of those who may have been overlooked or marginalized.
The power of storytelling, particularly when it revolves around real-life accounts, is that it has the potential to spark empathy, generate understanding, and ignite meaningful change. Through my work, I aspire to be a catalyst for social consciousness, inspiring individuals to reflect on the world around them and encouraging them to take action when necessary.
In essence, my role as a film producer is not only about entertainment but also about education and advocacy. It is a privilege to be a conduit for stories that matter, and my greatest satisfaction arises when these narratives touch the hearts and minds of audiences, ultimately contributing to a more informed and compassionate world.
