We recently connected with ShaCora Smith and have shared our conversation below.
ShaCora, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always known that fashion was my passion. I am my moms first child of 3 and the only girl, so I spent a significant amount of my childhood doing things my mom liked to do when it was just us. I remember being a little girl watching Sex and The City and Girlfriends with my mom and always looking forward to see what those women wore in each episode and actually discussing it with my mom. I remember just consuming everything that my mom did from getting dressed to go out with her friends, to the music she listened to, and how the process of watching her do it was always my favorite thing to do, besides playing in her clothes. As a kid all I wanted to do was play dress up all day every day but as a kid I didn’t know it was even possible to “work in fashion” until I got to Highschool and discovered the many positions you could do in the industry. My ultimate goal is to become a Fashion Designer. I want to create looks and fashion pieces that will inspire other young black girls from Ohio to live out their dream in fashion.

ShaCora, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
If you don’t know me yet, you will soon! My name is ShaCora, I am from Cleveland, OH.
I am currently living out my early 20’s and chile! What an experience this is!
I consider myself as an upcoming stylist, costume designer and social media manager.
I have been working as a social media manager for 4 years which helped me transition into fashion styling just by networking and becoming my client personal/styling assistant. I moved from Ohio earlier this year to Los Angeles to basically live out my dreams and it has been an amazing experience that I actually consider the biggest decision of my life so far.
I am a Creative Genius that uses innovation and technology to produce fashionable art. (Take a look at my Instagram)

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
After diving into my spirituality I’ve learned that my mission in life is to provide women with a voice in fashion. For so long we’ve been experiencing fashion from the lenses of men and I think it’s time for the world to wake up and realize that the world could be so much more if Women were in charge of the images and fashion we see on the daily. I also have this very specific goal to become Blue Ivy’s Stylist and Beyoncé’s Social Media Manager. I just feel so pulled to help Blue find her voice in fashion unapologetically in the mist of the scrutiny she’s always had to experience. And I have so many fresh and current ideas on how to expand Beyoncé’s brand while still keeping her values on her privacy in tact.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I feel like I am still building my audience on social media and while being a social media manager I’ve learned the true power in social media in our current society so I’ve been going through the motions of how I truly want to be perceived and how much of an impact I can make there. My advice would be for people to truly learn themselves and love themselves and then share what you feel the most comfortable with the world before you attempt to “build an audience”. Then once you love yourself enough to not think too deep on people’s opinions of you, be yourself on social media. No one is you and that’s your power. No matter what your niche is or how many people there already is doing what you want to do, as long as you remain yourself and having confidence in that, the audience that is supposed to find you will find you. I promise.
