We recently connected with Jazmin Jude and have shared our conversation below.
Jazmin , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
What I would change about the education system is to implement a more creative curriculum and to have more art classes and music classes available, especially in under served communities. I think that would help students explore their creative side, help manage their stress and it will give them a chance to learn a new talent or skill they may have not known they had or were able to do.
Jazmin , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello!
My name Jazmin and I am a horror artist and Illustrator, I paint a lot of weird creepy characters and share them online for others to enjoy!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
So when I first started out with my small business I was very young, I think i was 19 when I launched my first online store? I used weebly and coded the paypal buttons into my website. I didnt have a lot of money back then to fund my business thankfully instagram and tumblr were around at the time so I would post a lot of my work to those sites. It wasn’t until I started working at a shoe store that I started investing a little more money into my business, anything I had left over I would use it to buy things like a printer to make my art prints, I would also invest some money into buying higher quality art supplies, I remember there was an easel that I really wanted, I saved up my money from my shoe store job to buy it. So there would be bigger things that took some time to get but I would always make lists and have certain things that were a priority. Most of the time you need to sit down and write it all out, what are the things that you “need” vs things that you “want”. Its different for everyone but the one thing I did learn is to be clear in your goals, what do you ultimately want to achieve and how do you think you can get there?
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think the idea that we all will be gone one day is something that really drives me to do what I do, its always been important for me to be true to myself, to who I am as an artist and not try to change myself for any societal standards. A lot of different people wanted me to be a lot of different things, and those things just didnt feel natural to me, what I want out of a life is to spend as much of my time making art, leaving something meaningful behind that someone else may find inspiring after I am long gone. Its such a comforting and haunting feeling, I want to leave my mark behind for someone to find it.
