We were lucky to catch up with Abby Fenzel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Abby, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I’m a 4th generation Arizonan was born and raised in Yuma, AZ, The name Copper Blossom Events is a tribute to my Arizona roots. Copper is one of the 5 C’s of Arizona’s economy and Blossom is a nod to our state flower, the Saguaro Blossom. The desert is an inspiring place and can provide plenty of great ideas, color schemes, floral ideas, and more for weddings and events.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started in the wedding industry when I was 18 working for a local wedding magazine. Through this, I met a variety of vendors at styled shoots, trade shows, and client appreciation events. I was fortunate enough to appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into a successful wedding day. As time passed and my friends started to get married, I enjoyed helping source vendors, bringing their ideas & visions to life, and ensuring that things went off without a hitch. I’ve always wanted to help people in whatever capacity I can, and making sure your wedding day or milestone event goes off with no issues is one of the greatest gifts I can give. Through various jobs in my career, I’ve always been a party planner. Whether it was a Christmas party for a team of 30 or a corporate launch for 1500 people, tying all the pieces together and seeing the execution come together brings me great joy.
In 2021, one of my friends asked me if I’d be willing to be their wedding coordinator, and she wanted to pay me so I was determined to do my very best. Leading up to the wedding, I loved working with a fantastic team of vendors to make the day go smoothly. On their wedding day, I was on-site for 14 hours and thrived in every moment. Driving home that night, I knew I’d found my absolute passion.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I’ve lost track of the amount of times people (brides, grooms, wedding guests, other vendors, family, the list goes on and on!) have told me they could not do the job I do. Between the extreme level of organization, to time management to remembering all of the tiny details that will make someone’s event the thing of their dreams, staying over the top organized is not something everyone excels at. When pulling together a vendor team, part of the joy of that is finding other vendors who excel in their specialty. For example, I personally am a behind the scenes gal. I would much rather be making things happen quietly in the background than be officiating in front of your entire audience, though I am certified to marry folks if I ever had an emergency situation!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Ultimately my goal with Copper Blossom Events is to take a milestone event like a wedding that has the potential to be stressful, and remove that stress for my couples. Whether that’s breaking down to dos on a monthly or weekly basis, keeping all the vendors on the same page, or mitigating issues day of, I aim to make sure my clients feel supported at every step of the process.
