Kimberly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

Fashionsbyk is for the mature woman who wants to look beautiful, elegant, sexy and alluring. She is sophisticated and confident. My name is Kimberly and I like to think of myself as a fashionista. I don’t believe that you have to spend a fortune to look good. You can put a great look together for a fraction of the cost. I came up with name because fashion is my passion and K is the first letter of my name. Fashionsbyk had been in mind long before I launched in 2022. We are an online boutique. Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a pediatrician by day and fashionista by night. People have their ideas as to how doctors should look and dress. I am always professional by day but at night I want to put on my beautiful dress and paint the town red. I feel a lot of women can relate to my brand because if you work in corporate America, sometimes you can be confined to certain standards. I am a whole entire woman and there are different facets of my life that I am choosing to embrace. One of those includes fashion. I want to show women that you can look great at any age and there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I think one of the main lessons that I have learned when starting any business is that you have to learn to depend on and believe in yourself. You can’t depend on anyone to execute your dream. I have had people start with me and not finish. It was disappointing initially, but at the end of the day it is up to me to get me where I need to be. In the end, I am stronger and wiser and more resourceful. It’s important to just start. My motto has always been, Don’t hate on nobody and don’t wait on nobody.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

As stated, I am pediatrician by day and fashionista by night. I am equally passionate about both. The business, fashionsbyk has been steady but I would love to reach a broader audience and eventually branch out to include plus size clothing. I believe women of all shapes and sizes want to look and feel beautiful and be included.
