We recently connected with Morgan Kelley and have shared our conversation below.
Morgan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
After functioning in the event space for about three years as an event stylist/coordinator. I launched the Scarlett Collection, “Your Pinterest perfect party, delivered to your doorstep, with the click of a button.”
The moment the idea popped into my head I was having a conversation with a friend regarding the already existing event business and it was kind of like “HEY!! What if I could streamline this?? What if I could give people a complete party in an instant?” And that is when the long journey into the world of products began.
Having a passion for events, design, and true event experiences fueled this natural next step. I understood that the process of event coordination isn’t accessible to everyone. It boils down to cost, time, and efficiency. Everyone doesn’t have or want to spend the time needed to coordinate and correspond with an event designer & coordinator. I created the Scarlett Collection party boxes in an effort to make that more accessible. To make it easy to have seamless events that were chic, modern, and perfectly curated.
I am absolutely solving a problem that no one else is solving. The thing that is so special about our product (in addition to our chic and modern designs), is that our boxes are personalized. It really makes our clients (who are mostly busy moms) look like mom of the year. Each party comes with a personalized backdrop (literally with your child’s name on it), custom water bottle labels, and complete invitations (no fill in the blanks here). We also offer every other detail for your party. This includes but isn’t limited to, frames for your party signs, gift bags, party favors, party hats. You name it, we’ve thought of it. These details are what we are most excited about and also what really sets us apart!
Lastly, and pretty high up on level of importance, in a world where moms are curating playrooms that feature only wooden toys, people are tired of the Party City aesthetic. They are tired of junky cluttered parties that feature cheap and tacky party favors. I aimed to created something that fits effortlessly into the aesthetic of your home, something that is minimalist, something different.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Morgan Kelley, and I am a serial entrepreneur. Two of my favorite business ventures are my event design and coordination firm, Scarlett Events and The Scarlett Collection. The Scarlett Collection was created from my background in events. We sell curated themed party boxes for baby showers, birthday parties, bridal showers, and graduation parties. Our niche at Scarlett Events is luxury parties for your littles, we took that same concept and applied it The Scarlett Collection. We do everything end to end for our clients from venue sourcing, to menu planning, and of course high end luxury designs that wow guests.
My mom used to throw fabulous parties and entertain often in my childhood home. As a child I observed these events with big bright eyes and curiosity. Little did I know the seed was being planted for my entire career. I loved watching my mom entertain. As I got older I would take out all of the china, chargers, linens, and fancy silver and do little mini shoots in our home. It morphed into a passion, and well, here we are.
What I am most proud of is our collection of themed and meticulously curated party boxes. It’s taken years (and so much hard work) to create, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
The thing that I want my clients and followers to know most about the Scarlett Collection is that we thought of every detail so they wouldn’t have to. We created this product with the client in mind. To help them pull off chic, modern, minimalistic parties with the click of a button.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been partnerships with other brands that have similar target audiences. We partnered with The Bunny Hive. The Bunny Hive is a social studio for little ones that has a similar aesthetic, and certainly the same clientele. Additionally, they also provide event space for birthday parties, baby showers, and similar events. We have partnered with them to provide event coordination and design to their clients and we also help coordinate their in house events! This partnership has been invaluable and we have seen a huge spike in business. We are so grateful for the partnership.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I sell directly from my site (shameless plug, scarlettcollection.party), and at this time I do not sell from sites like Etsy and Amazon. One of the main reasons for that decision is that I do not have to share profits. All of the revenue goes directly to the business.
Additionally, were something crazy to happen with one of those platforms. For example, there is a glitch, a breach or just the general site being offline is something that is outside of my control. We have seen Instagram go down for a day or two, which is frustrating. So my goal was to avoid the possibility of that happening and be in complete and total control of my product and sales.
