We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Agnete Strand . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Agnete below.
Agnete, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I read the book an Actor prepares by Konstantin Stanislavskij I knew I wanted to act and I wanted to learn The Method. Also seeing the movie One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest was a big inspiration for me . Living in Sweden at the time where I was born, I knew it wasn’t taught there so I decide to go to Los Angeles and study at the Lee Strasberg Institute. I was 19 years old and barley speaking English when I moved there.
Agnete, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As I mention before I was born and grew up in Sweden but once I decided to act and knew I wanted to learn the method that was taught at the Lee Strasberg institute, I moved to Los Angeles . I studied there for a couple of years and later I also studied with Eric Morris after reading No acting please, which had a foreword by Jack Nicholson ,who I was very impressed with his acting and wanted to know more about. I also studied with Susan Peretz and did many show cases and plays at her theater. I later audition and become a life time member of the Actors Studio West and East coast. I have acting in many plays and films here and in Sweden, produced and directed children theater here in Los Angeles.
Had a world premiere of a Swedish play I brought here that I produced and acted in at The Hudson Theater in Los Angeles. In the last couple of years I have acted in 4 independent films. 2 of them I also produced. The first one Favors just had it’s world premier at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Where I was pleasantly surprised that out of 400 films I won The Best Actress award. I love acting, films TV , plays stories and love to collaborate with other creative’s.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I grew up in a family where no one else is in the entertainment industry, so it is sometimes hard to explain why I continue doing what I do as an actress and producer. I am not famous or rich, yet as an actress or producer if that happen great but that’s not why I do it. My passion for my acting has been my guiding light all my life. I love acting and producing .
For me it is what makes it worth getting up in the morning. Yes I love my family and my 2 amazing sons but I can’t live my live for others, and I don’t think its healthy for anyone to do. I need to follow my path however crazy that might seem and I do support my children to do the same whatever their journey is.
The older I get the more excited I am to act and now also produce. I am now writing a story about something that happened to me as a child that I will make into a film.
I believe stories in film , TV and plays are so important in our society and especially now with so much going on in the word.Art is and will always be a reflection of our society.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding thing for me being artist is to collaborate with others. And of course to get to see the fulfillment of a project. The film Favors came out of the pandemic, when we could not continue to meet in person I asked an actress friend if we could meet on zoom and pick some material that we could work on , as actors it so important to keep our instrument in shape. We eventually found the script of Favors and was having fun working on that. Then one day when the world open up a little, I asked her, why don’t we film it, we can just film it on our I phone. So we started that journey , we did end up getting a director and DP and an editor. When we eventually got to see it on the big screen at The Chinese Theater in Hollywood it was very satisfying and exciting.
