Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tia Metaxas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I have taken is trying to relocate from Australia to New York. I have always loved New York and wanted to spend more time here and collaborate with more brands and people however for years it felt out of reach. It was actually during covid that I had more space and time and I decided to finally follow my dreams to try and live in my favourite city. I even quit my job to try and come here and travel in 2022. It’s not the easiest thing, but I must say that it has been an exciting rollercoaster ride. I have loved New York since my first visit ten years ago & I said to myself if I could live and work anywhere it would be New York. I took the risk because I thought if not now- then when? There is nowhere else as exciting, creative and that feels like home.
Tia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into my Marketing Degree in a kind of unconventional way (my mum forced me). I then quickly ended up loving it and before I even finished I had a job with a digital agency. I have been working in marketing ever since which is nearly 10 years now. I love helping businesses build their brands, strategise their marketing, connect with their audience and create compelling content.
What sets me apart is that I have a balance of technical, analytical and strategic skills that are very thought out and thorough. Mixed with the creative edge of wanting to push boundaries and never feel like something is impossible.
I am most proud of the successful female owned skincare brand I am working with called Nalia Cosmetics that empowers people with spa quality skincare.
I want my clients to know, I have a creative solution for every problem. No matter that type of business or issue, there is always a solution.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is finding marketing solutions for my clients that set them apart in their market and help them push boundaries. I love seeing a creative vision come to life and giving others an opportunity to be part of the process. From planning photoshoots, to designing websites and blogs for brands, while running their social media, I love being part of the creative process and increasing opportunities for other creatives.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
One of the biggest marketing risks I have ever taken was while I was running marketing for a global property company in Australia. It was a concept and design for a front window display (decal), which typically in that industry is quite simple and traditional with less creativity. However I decided that we were going to use the windows as an opportunity to share a brand message, and the concept was to write the word ‘hello’ in every language to draw connection to the local potential customers walking by and make a statement.
That window display ended up being one of the most photographed areas in that location. Soon later the team in Dubai made that design into a t-shirt for all of their staff and students to wear. Overall the risk paid off for the local, and global markets although it was against the normal way of doing things, the connection to the future and consumer was highly successful.
