We recently connected with Tatiana Bezer and have shared our conversation below.
Tatiana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have experienced the benefits of using Mala beads in my yoga practice to a very deep level and I wanted to help other people discover this simple, beautiful tool that has been used by yogis for thousands of years. Mala Beads add a tactile dimension to the practice of chanting and voicing mantras. They can be used strategically in combination with crystals to attract certain energies into our lives, open portals, create layers of protection, and address specific areas in our body.
I started to research this subject about 5 years ago before I became a mother. During pregnancy, I felt a big attraction toward crystals, beads, and their healing powers and I started to grow my Mala collection and practice with them more often. I loved the idea of handcrafting a Mala with a specific purpose in mind, because the more specific we are with our ambitions or goals, especially when we voice them out loud or visualize them, the clearer the message is transmitted into the universe of what it is that we are claiming in our lives. I take comfort in knowing that my creations will help other people grow, gain strength, feel more peaceful, and improve their quality of life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The moment I walked into my first yoga class I realized that I was living out of alignment in so many areas of my inner world. Yoga gave me a moment of reflection and connection to inner peace that I hadn’t experienced before… and this is what sparked my journey into not only teaching yoga and meditation but creating malas. I realized though that the “yoga” practice as most people see with the advanced poses wasn’t what I was good at or even passionate about, it was the inner workings of the spirit and how that translated into the results I was seeing in my life.
What happened next was what has led me here today. I bought my first mala! But I didn’t buy it to wear as jewelry, I bought it as a way to help me become more grounded, a better mom, and a better teacher. I became obsessed with crystals, their energy, and their effects as tools. I started testing malas with specific crystals and crystal combinations and understanding how when used correctly they were powerful catalysts.
Every time I make a mala I carefully choose the crystal combinations for the specific effects I want it to give to the person who wears it. I set intentions, and good vibes and then educate you on how to best use it to help you achieve the specific magic that mala brings to you. This is why it’s so important to know how to use the mala, why I am so passionate about teaching and educating you on its power and why having a collection of different crystals and stones so you can reach for the mala you need at that moment!
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Crystals and gemstone beads have always been my passion. Over the years I have collected many different stones and started to study their energies and benefits. I started to use crystals in my meditation practices and noticed an activation of my body’s energy and I became more curious. I was familiar with sound healing techniques and decided to incorporate Malas into my practice. It wasn’t too long until I started to handcraft Malas and combine all the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years about energy work, reiki, crystals, mantras, and meditation. In a short period of time, I have created well over 50 different Mala designs and that’s when I realized that this can become my main job. I have never been more content and in love with what I do than when I work with beads and crystals. In order for me to turn my passion into a full-time job I hired a business coach and consulted multiple Indian authentic energy masters that have taught me how to correctly use Mala beads, how to charge them, and how to choose and chant mantras. This is why the most popular choice in my shop is custom-made items, not only do I create a Mala specifically to their needs but I educate how to use them further and tap into their energy.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I sell my Malas on two platforms online and at local markets in Miami. The first online shop I opened on Etsy about three years ago. Etsy is a great marketplace for handmade businesses and personalized items which aligned well with what I do. Very easy to set up and use. However, if you are looking to develop a personal brand and stand up from the crowd I recommend opening a Shopify store. This platform is very robust and offers a multitude of tools through which you can develop your business. The challenge here is how to bring traffic to your shop, become visible on search engines, and how to place your products in front of your ideal clients. This is where Instagram, Tiktok, and Facebook ads come into play. We are very fortunate to have multiple platforms free of charge where we can market ourselves, connect with our audience, and show our authentic selves. This turned out to be one of the biggest challenges for me because I’ve always been a very private person and not very present on social media platforms. However, since then I have discovered that there are many others that face similar matters and can be extremely supportive of one another.
