Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sin Silva. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sin, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was taking pole classes to better my self confidence and one day my mentor told me to compete professionally. I was very scared but of course I did it despite the odds. I ended up winning and in that moment I realized this is what I wanted to do with my life. Spread confidence and inspire other people through my art. You don’t have to have the perfect body or years worth of training to be someone good and inspiring and that’s what i hope I can convey through my art.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a neo-burlesque artist with drag aesthetics and inspirations. I am a proud non-binary Latinx queer artist based in Miami. Some of my novelty acts including pole dancing, fire eating, whip cracking, and aerialism. Everything I do sets me apart from others; as a performer, I always bring a fresh, innovated and new take to everything I showcase on a stage. What I’m most proud of is representing my community the non-binary and Latinx.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think my particular goal in my journey is to normalize queer bodies and queer lifestyles.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I started my journey I was so focused on being perfect. While filming the hit OutTV reality show “Hot Haus (season 2)” I realized that it’s okay to not be perfect all the time and show emotions while being vulnerable. people want to see that, people want to not just see you on stage but learn about who you are as a person, that’s the beautiful thing about being a public figure, you get to show people that it’s okay to not be okay.
