We were lucky to catch up with Jamie Maitland recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

I started out my fitness career by co-owing a spin studio. In 2017 I sold my shares of the company and found myself going around to various studios to get variety. the problem was that I had to drive around to several different places every week to get this variety. I was doing boxing, spin, barre, strength, isolated classes, etc but no studio offered this in a “group setting” as a class under one roof. My parents have owned a unique property in east Fort Lauderdale since the early 90’s, it was actually there “office” at a point and time but they were no longer using it and had it up for sale. After scouting out several lease options, my parents mentioned, “Why don’t you take over THE OFFICE?” Not knowing this was even an option, I immediately responded with an overzealous, “YES!”

I knew this concept would work not only because there was a need for this type of concept but because of the following I had built from my prior endeavor. What I was most excited about when I opened THE OFFICE was the fact that it was my own thing and I had complete creative freedom to my vision come to life.

The Office was created to deliver a group fitness concept that differed from everything else in the South Florida area. It is a result driven studio that welcomes all fitness levels, classes are designed to maintain the perfect balance of consistency and confusion for your muscles. We host only 12 spots per class, to give it that personal private group training touch and MUSIC & VIBE are everything! Our high ceiling workout room features colorful mood lighting that will change depending on your class, as well as a crystal clear sound system that will rival any night club. The Office is not only visually unique, it is a one stop shop fitness studio where you can get all different styles of workouts under one roof. Equipment will vary from a ballet barre, to boxing bags, spin bikes, to dumbbells that range from 5lb to 100lbs. I encourage you to keep an open mind when you workout with us, you may surprise yourself of what your body can actually do given the right environment and instruction. Details are important and so is your health, I look forward to challenging your body and inspiring your mind.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Ive always loved fitness classes, working out, and all around being active. In 2015 I co-opened a 50 bike spin studio and fell in love with teaching. After a few years of teaching spin and sculpt classes I decided to venture out and create my own concept that offered variety. In 2019 I opened THE OFFICE which is a unique group fitness concept that offers several different styles of workouts under one roof in an intimate group setting of only 12 people per class.

In 2021 I became a certified holistic nutritionist. Teaching group fitness is a passion but offering nutritional advice and creating food/supplements with clean ingredients is my calling. THE OFFICE HEALTH is my newest concept, it is a low lectin organic health food company that offers the highest quality ingredients, gut health is our priority. How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Being authentic. Most people can see/feel bullshit, being my self and expressing what I believe in has organically earned me the reputation that I have today.

Yes, I sold my shares of a spin studio I co-created. Selling was the best thing that happened to me career wise, closing one door opened 3 new ones and this time I had experience and a client following.
