We were lucky to catch up with Larry Thompson Sr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Larry, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
At 13 I woke up and decided that I wanted to be the most influential person on earth.
I started doing things that would interject me into the limelight aka find my lane. I dabbled in many lanes seeking how I’d become this person I envisioned myself. I was invoked in real estate, college, financial education, politics, music, sports, and you can name it. As I grew and continued to get involved in these many different lanes, I slowly started seeing the vision of how my bigger picture started coming together. All the spaces and places I was involved with help my puzzle of influence come together. After years of trials and errors on being an entrepreneur, I finally hit my stride when starting my consulting firm, Venice Martyn Solutions. This journey took me down a political rabbit hole that open the doors for my solar energy intro. Once I connected with the renewable energy sector, I found myself home and ready to use this instrument as a way to reach my goal.

Larry, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
To know me is to know purity and servitude. I pride myself in helping people understand their circumstances, create hope and optimism to escape them, and give them a path to travel in my same footsteps.
I feel me being the youngest black male solar company owner, I’ve placed myself in elite company of perception. I have this knack to know what steps to take to be ahead of the curves of life. I focus on building community, social, political, and electoral equity and capital so we can utilize it in a manner that creates the social balance to oppressive laws and policies.
We focus on being the true and authentic to the mission. That mission to be the greatest servants available for ourselves and our future. My solar energy company have 50 states plus international range. We can install, design, procure projects anywhere aide is needed. Having this capacity gives me a daily fulfillment of knowing I’m still on track with my childhood dreams and I’m not going to miss the mark.
Let’s talk M&A – we’d love to hear your about your experience with buying businesses
I bought my first solar energy company this year in 2022. It was really all about research and building self value to get the opportunities I desired. I really hopped in the industry, studied it and how it flows, and the. Found myself in a bidding war with several companies all offering ownership. I found the company that I thought fit me better and I ran with it. I saw Solar being the fossil fuels of tomorrow, from a financial perspective. I saw it also to be a chance to save the world. This mission of renewable energy has led me to saving the planet while setting myself up for generational wealth.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was born and raised in small town in Mississippi. I lived in a town own 90-110 ppl total. This long journey of building out my internationally extended network has been a ride, but the main focus is to not miss the bigger picture while understanding the tiny strokes are just as important.
