We recently connected with Vanessa Aquino and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What makes people successful is their perseverance, insistence, and determination. All those big corporations and successful business owners failed somehow in their plans yet they continued to find errors and persisted with their business otherwise they would not be where they are today. I always tell people if you fail to accomplish your goal, don’t just quit. Try something different, try something new, your perseverance, insistence, and determination will help you accomplish your goals.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an entrepreneur, business owner, and consultant. I help people take their ideas into action and start a business as well as help them grow it. My first business I started with my mom when I was 15 – an accessory store, since then my passion for business has grown. I got my bachelor’s in Business and I got certified in Business consulting because I have a passion for helping people with their business goals.
I started this brand back in 2019 because I was struggling to find a swimsuit I was used to and one I would feel comfortable in. A year into this business I noticed that many women were interested in the swimsuits from Brazil and how they felt confident with it. Wear Brazil first started as a swimwear line designed to inspire confidence, later on, we added exclusive and unique clothing also imported from Brazil. We believe clothing and swimwear should empower women and reflect their unique personalities. We showcase a wide range of styles, from chic and trendy pieces to versatile ones, catering to every taste and body type. We also believe in a commitment to quality and sustainability, in our eco-friendly swimwear collections we use materials that not only feel incredible against your skin but also contribute to reducing our environmental footprint. Our swimsuits are resistant to fading, stretching, and chlorine, ensuring they withstand the test of time and numerous adventures under the sun.
Our brand values inclusivity, embracing the diverse beauty of every body shape, size, and age. We design to enhance your confidence and encourage you to embrace your unique beauty.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
My favorite marketing strategy is getting in front of the audience. I first started as an online business but my business grew and got recognized when I started to attend pop-up markets and network events. It was in those network events that I met magazine editors and TV producers who got interested in my story and wanted to share my story with other people. It was in these market events that I built brand awareness in San Antonio and my sales skyrocketed. There are risks of you not being accepted but there are bigger chances of people loving the story behind the brand. It’s important to always have a story not only a product or service.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Money is essential to start a business, however, I did not need a ton of money to start my brand. I import from Brazil so the currency helps minimize the cost. I started with low inventory and did not spend a lot of money on advertising, I first started selling within the Brazilian community and shared on Facebook and WhatsApp groups – the mouth-to-mouth marketing was essential in the beginning. I don’t remember how much I spent initially but it was less than one thousand dollars. It was an online business our operational cost was not a lot, and whatever was sold the money was used to reinvest.
