Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Juss Reggie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Juss , appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I even knew about the opportunities being a creative would create. 2012 Vine was the introduction to social media creating, even though YouTube had been around Vine was easy and quick all you needed was your phone. I want to be to a youth what no one was to me I always had this sense of humor and skill of composing humorous situations . Growing up I was always one of the funniest kids in the room but I was so misunderstood, my animated behavior wasn’t views as something that could be disciplined and crafted into talent because we lacked the knowledge. Mississippi only possess a few know comedians JJ from the Sipp probably being the most known one other than him people rarely pursue comedy where I’m from. Knowing then what I know now would have reshaped my entire life. I’m a firm believer things happen when they need to though.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My start to comedy was a lucky start I had a co worker in a music showcase for John Smith Presents. My co worker had something come up and couldn’t attend he put in a word for me on the comedy side and John allowed me to rock the stage for the first time. I got behind those lights and forgot every single joke I had written but I didn’t quit I improved the entire set and killed it. People was so shocked it was my first time and how comfortable I was on stage, hell so was I. I did a few more shows for John in Hollywood before moving back to Dallas a year later and my career took off. I have a few proud moments opening for Tommy Davidson, or being told about memorable joke from D. Ellis. My most recent proudest moment I had a show May 22nd I produced & organized, hired comedians, and i headlined. Dallas Comedy Club is an amazing venue that allowed me to present my vision and make it happen and the most beautiful part my first conducted show and I profited. It made me proud to pay my peers to do what they love. I have officially been monetized by Instagram and Facebook that’s dope af. I also work a full time job where I’m a lead supervisor and my schedule is poo, but I take my work money and create opportunity like my show I did. I’m now writing a series for YouTube, of skits and short visuals and also searching for any talent young and old. My first short visual is “this cougar thinks she’s my mother” which I casted a mature beautiful wal mart co worker she and I will make a buzz with this skit.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had a show in Hollywood I got word Marlon Wayans was suppose to be in the house and I had to kill it. The night before I’m nervous so as a Fatboy I needed a Jumbo Jack to calm me as I write. I get my food I’m bumping Pimp C heading up Cypress Ave in Fontana Ca. My car out of no where gave every light possible the car overheated instantly once I made it home it wouldn’t even crank anymore. During this time I was coming out of being homeless renting a room from a coworkers mom. I didn’t have extra money for this besides I have a show tomorrow night I’m hurt. I wake up the next morning go see about a rental that tanked on me all day I’m thinking who can call but nothing came to mind. I get a call from a good friend Desiree after talking about all of my issues she said “hell naw yu have to get there you got gas I will take you” my prayers was answered. This was literally a hr before I needed to leave but the resilience comes in I had still went and got a hair cut and ironed and laid out a fit as if I knew something would come through. NO MATTER HOW GREAT AN EXCUSE IS IT DOESNT ALTER NOR CHANGE REALITY
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to change lives. Laughter is healing it’s a release of emotions same as crying and I wanna heal my people with that. Rehabilitation centers take in people off the street and groom them back to a healthy mind and a healthy life. I wanna offer a second chance to the forgotten. One day I was at a backpack drive and we are handing out back packs I see this young black women walking through the shaded parts just to keep from burning her feet. My legs begin to just walk toward her I didn’t even feel in control of my body I gave her the shoes off my feet and a bottle of water prayed for her and continued to give back packs barefoot. This is who God designed me to be I cried so hard for the homeless during the snowstorm of 2021 wishing I could house em all. This world needs more love more unity and more vision and I have one.
