Tamara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Well it all began when we moved to Acton. Trying to find activities for my kids to do. We found out about 4H and fell in love with the sweetest little goats. We loved everything about them. My son showed them so we milked and it was the creamiest best tasting milk I have ever had. I have problem with milk so it was so awesome to be able to drink it. We had an over abundance of milk in the freezer and my husband said what are you going to do with all that milk? I said, I’ll make lotion and Body Potions was born. We began the end of 2019. We’re blessed to be at the AV Winery Farmers Market, The Pretty Little Poppy AV, Chic Salon- Acton, Bloom Ranch in Acton, The Guardian in Agua Dulce and online.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a mom of 3 fabulous boys, married to my best friend and have a goat ranch in Acton. I’m a very lucky woman. I make organic goat milk products : soaps, lotions, creams, body scrubs from our own happy goats. The difference of my products is I only use organic and natural ingredients. Goat milk has many vitamins and minerals that help your skin. It’s been known to help acne, aging, eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, diaper rash, and much more. I love my products. My whole family uses it. It’s helped my boys with acne and my itchy skin.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Capital hmmm, I didn’t have any major investors except my husband. We sacrificed, penny pinched and used what we had. My husband supported my business because he believed in me and my business. He wanted me to succeed. We all worked as a team to make this business a reality. I’m very thankful to my family for all the help. Love you all so very much.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Body Potions is a family built business. I make all the products by hand. We feed our goats the best quality hay we can find. We then milk our goats and use the best milk to make our soaps, creams, lotions, and more. The recipe was all trial and error. It took me awhile to master the right one. I’ve learned that it takes a village of support when your running a business. It takes a lot of work and drive to build a business. Don’t quit! Try and try again is my advice.
