We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lucas Barra a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lucas, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers.
I was in the middle of COVID, I had -$500 in my business bank account, about $12,000 in credit card debt and I could not afford to buy toilet paper on a Friday night. It was one of the roughest situations I have been in during my life, I started thinking being a business owner was not for me and was one of the verge of quitting my business. My coach told me to hang in there and that something REALLY good was about to happened. I learned one of the most valuable lessons to being an entrepreneur which is that when you feel bad, something good is right on the other side of your experience.
Earlier in the week, I had a phone call with a potential client from Spain of all places. They were interested in my mastermind group, I used to run. I set a consultation call with the potential client from Spain for that upcoming Saturday. I woke up Saturday morning after the hell I experienced on Friday like a man possessed. I closed an $11,000 deal in 20 minutes and saved my business and my self confidence. It was a hell of a turnaround and that’s what entrepreneurship is all about!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I was working in sales for a management consulting company that provided CEO and mastermind advisory groups. The company did not provide personal coaching to entrepreneurs who did not meet the qualifications for my old company. I saw this market and wanted to help out all of the entrepreneurs who didn’t qualify for our service. Mixed with my sales background, Radical Sales Coaching was born. I provide one to one and group coaching services to my clients. I specialize in helping them with their mindsets around growing their businesses and sales. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve had with my clients. I’ve worked with some of my clients for almost 4 years. I want people to know about me that I’m committed to helping them because their best selves.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the fact that I am not the fact that I am enough. I basically got conditioned by myself and society to believe this. This led me to always strive for more and bigger achievements. This is great but it made it REALLY hard for me to slow down and enjoy the process of actually which made my growth stagnant at time. I had to learn to enjoy myself more and have fun while enjoying the drive I have

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I had tailor bunion surgery in 2021. Imagine one of your foot bones sticking out of your foot completely( great image right)? I had to have the bunion/bone sawed off which required me to have surgery and get in a surgical boot. At the time I was still running my business and growth was happening so I had to find a way to keep going.
I took the necessary downtime for the surgery and then went straight back to work. I was hardly able to walk and was having a hard time keeping it together mentally but I knew I had to show up for my clients to help them no matter what. I knew one day I would look back and be proud of how I adopted. This kept me going and I look back at this moment to help me get through tough times
