We were lucky to catch up with Ishmael Auguiste recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ishmael, thanks for joining us today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My hero would definitely be my mom, she’s taught me a lot throughout the years giving me lessons on life that I then Implemented to become the man I am today.
My mother is the strongest woman I know, she raised me and my younger brother on her own and she did a pretty good job doing so. She taught me how to manage businesses, take care of myself and the people around me, how to treat women and most of all how to be a man.
She has always been my number one supporter and would often support me in whatever career path I chose in any way she could.
I had always been a photogenic child as I hit high t school I realized I had a love for photography. I told my mom this and what she said changed my career forever. She said to me “save half the money for the camera and I’ll put in the rest “ .
I was eager to get my first camera so in less than no time I got a summer job and in the summer of July 2019 I finally had enough to purchase my first camera. I started to experiment with it and took photos of myself first, fast forward a few months my photos had reached a lager audience than expected I then got scouted by a few model agency and decided to go with a local agency called sashe model management. My mother was over the top and encouraged me to keep it up.
Fast forward a few years I got the opportunity to model for Burberry my mom was even more excited than I was she would help pack my bags and help me with whatever I needed and would even drop and pick me up at the location for every shoot which was 6:00 Am every morning.
Talk about dedicated, to this day has I get opportunities to leave my mother and model internationally she still supports and encourages me to take a leap of faith.
So all in all most of success would not be possible without the all mighty Heavenly Father. And my mother.
Ishmael, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I my name is Ishmael Auguiste, I was born and raised in Antigua along with my younger brother Ju’kymbe. I’m currently 21 I stand at 6ft and I am a model and a photographer this is my story.
I started modeling professionally at the age of 18, I had just purchased my first camera which was the Nikon D3500 I started taking portraits of myself which then got the attention of a few model agencies. I’m both a model and a photographer as a photographer I provide a professional service with carefully crafted portraits of my clients.
I think what sets me apart from other photographers and Models is my personality and my mindset, I think outside the box which causes my clients to come back to me and agencies to call me to model for them.
I’m proud that as a model I was selected to model for one of the biggest brands on earth which was Burberry. I would like everyone to know that anything is possible once you put your mind to it,
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
As I started to process as a freelance model I got the attention of a few agencies. And one day I got a message from a friend of mine saying the agency he’s with would like to recruit me.
I agreed and we met up a night at a community center to then discuss my relationship with the agency and my career with them. I eventually agreed to join making them my mother agency. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I would like to become an international model or an influencer where I am able to create things people have never seen.
To bring joy to people make them feel good and to let them know that nothing is impossible, I would be able to spread positivity across a larger audience.
