Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joseph, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
L-evated comes from two forms of thought process. My son, Landon, was the biggest inspiration behind the L in L-evated. At a young age, I would see him make the L symbol with his fingers and the majority of people would think that as if it represented losing/loser or something of that sort. I wanted to always look at the L as a positive instead of negative. I’ve always been the type to see the positive in anything. That L represents life I was given at a bad time but his birth brought a new meaning. That L represents love that I had to learn to give myself when I was feeling down and out. That L represents an L-evated mindset which will never let me take anything for granted and prove myself right without worrying about proving others wrong.
Joseph, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My story came from a battle from the beginning. My mom had cancer prior to my birth so the fight for my life started before being brought into this world. I saw my mom work hard without the worry of the fight she was battling so I adapted these ways from early on. Fast forward to years later after graduating in Electrical Engineering and Math/Physics, I worked so hard to become as good as I could be within the work force. As we all know, that does not come with many disappointments and struggles as well. I never beat myself up to the point where I could not pick myself back up. I did, however, have to learn how to be resilient in everything I did.
After going through my career in the Engineering and Management field, I knew there was more to me than working for someone else. I’ve also dibbled into entrepreneurship but I always let the wrong people talk me out of going forward with it. Chiropractic came to me randomly. I was someone who was against the profession years ago but this was also the same industry that help me at the time when I needed it the most. The helped in a way that had nothing to do with just an injury but one particular Chiropractor showed me a different way of looking at things and really gave me insight into building not only a brand but most importantly a place where I could help individuals become the best version of themselves after injury or pain they may have experienced to the best of their ability.
With myself and the L-evated team, we care about the overall health of our patients which is not just physical but mental. We treat every patient according to their needs and the L-evated Brand has been able to expand in ways I did not see at the beginning. We not only provide Chiropractic care and wellness but we have expanded into other fields where we can help other individuals with getting business loans, partnering to help with healthcare records, and much more.
I would like other people to know that it’s never too late to make a change in your life. We get one shot at this thing called life so we have to make the best of it. Change is going to happen regardless so I’d rather be ahead of change than behind it.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Most people think you can start a business, have all your ducks in a row, and you will have all this access to funding. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is that funding is not as accessible as it once was and definitely not as accessible as it is made out to be. Being the type of person I am, I go after whatever God gave me a vision for. I truly believe that if it’s not supposed to be then God would have never given me the vision and how to execute it. Long story short is that I funded every penny into this business until I was able to have lenders asking me to apply for funding. It’s funny how things work out in your favor when you are grateful for what God has already given you and grateful what God will bless you with. Everything in between is just a distraction to give you a desire to give up or not start.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to not listen to everyone’s advice including the closest ones to you. Most will give you advice based off how they would do something and the mindset they have. No one has your mindset or truly understand what you can deal with. You have to understand that you are capable of doing what you planned to do and to not let someone turn you away from the vison or goals you have set for yourself.
