We recently connected with Jasmine Rezonable and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
After I had the idea to start creating pancake art and made my first pancake, my world changed entirely. Everything that I did revolved around pancake art and the idea of being able to turn this into a full time business. At the time I can remember doodling while at work to eventually get off of work, driving the 1.5 hour drive back home just to get started on making pancake art through the night. While a lot of my friends were going out, I stayed in because I knew that this idea was something bigger than just me.
Initially I had to figure out how to draw while simultaneously learning how to create pancake art, which equipment/ingredients were the best to use and how to document it all for the first time ever. Safe to say they weren’t my best but with enough practice, anything is possible.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Get Caked LA is an edible pancake art mobile service I started at the age of 20 after moving to LA living with roommates I met off of Craigslist haha The story is my favorite part. When I first started creating pancake art I had no prior art, business or culinary experience however I had seen someone creating it online in Japan and was captivated by the idea of it. The idea of pursuing pancake art stemmed shortly after reading a study that said that as humans the way that our brains learn and develop skills, with enough practice we can learn any skill in the world.
We are grateful to say that as 1 of the only companies in the world that offers events of this caliber we bring little moments of happiness and help create memories with the people that matter most to you while serving you edible pancake art. We aim to inspire people around the world to pursue any skill that they are interested in trying as a reminder that we all start at level 0 when we start anything, no matter how unconventional it may be!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When we first started on social media it was a following made of my mom, brother, aunts, cousins and myself.. A whole 10 people at best. At first I had no idea what I was posting for but then I realized the impact of telling this story. When I first started posting it was always because it was what felt good to me and eventually as time went on I tried to keep up with trends.
After we went viral for our Buzzfeed Tasty video we gained a ton of followers and that changed how we looked at things. Yes, we wanted to stay in with the trends and at the same time understood how tiring it would be to create “turn and burn” content as we put it.
As time has gone on the recommendation I have for anyone on social media is to create content that feels good to you. As long as you are putting out content that resonates with you and your values, you’ll create the right community willing to support your brand.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The initial capital to put the business together came from working multiple jobs in LA and taking on smaller clients for Get Caked LA. Sometimes I’d work 6-7 day weeks because I was lucky enough to book business gigs on the weekends I had off. I had to work hard to pay my bills, purchase the equipment we needed and save where I could in case of any emergency. We have received 0 outside investments(other than my parents help here and there, thank you a ton mom/dad) and I hope that we can keep it that way since it’s been a long time without needing it. As my mom says “If being a business owner was easy, everyone would be doing it.
