We were lucky to catch up with Aleena Tchetchenian recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aleena, thanks for joining us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
In 2019 straight after I graduated from my Diploma of Elite Performance at Brent Street, I was lucky enough to land my first professional contract, in Grease the Musical in the role of Cha Cha. Royal Caribbean International flew me over to the USA to begin rehearsals. This was a dream come true as I was the youngest cast member in the show. To actually be paid to do what I love, which was performing, was the most rewarding thing I could ever ask for. Also, landing the role of Cha Cha, getting to play that role was so much fun. As I got to bring out my fiery side on stage. Making my dreams into my reality was the most incredible feeling. It was the best year of my life!
Aleena, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My Names Aleena Tchetchenian and I am a dancer, singer ,actor. I have trained in all facets of the Performing Arts under the guidance of Australia’s leading tutors. I began my training at the prestigious McDonald College. I completed my Diploma of Elite Performance at Brent Street. I have performed in a variety of events and shows including Marko Panzic’s ‘Prodigy’ show, and has been part of Locreado Dance company. My TV credits include Saturday Disney, commercials for KFC ‘Pull The Plug’ & Aussie Apples, and featured as a ballet dancer in the film Dance Academy. I recently returned from playing the role of Cha Cha in Grease the Musical for Royal Caribbean International.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of bring a performer is that I get to do what I love each and every day. There’s something so special about being up on stage in front of thousands of people, it’s a feeling like no other. I love to inspire others and put a smile on peoples faces. When you do what you love it doesn’t feel like work.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think non-creatives would struggle to understand the hours of training that go into this career. I have been training since the age of 4, and continue to train to this day. You are competing with thousands of other performers at each audition for a chance to get the part. It can be as brutal as walking into a room, after doing hours of hair, makeup, learning lines, preparing songs and choreography, to be cut straight away. It has taught me resilience and to never give up as everything happens for a reason and it will all fall into place as everyone is on their own journey.
