Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marissa Mueller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marissa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
I had a client who came to me feeling like she had very little sense of self or personal boundaries. As a result of her upbringing and traumas that had happened in her life, she had started to believe the lie that she wasn’t valuable and her needs weren’t important. She was feeling anxious, depressed, lost, and powerless to change any of it. Through the therapy experience, she was able to share her story in a safe space where she finally felt heard and validated. We started identifying relationship patterns in her life and uncovering the “why” behind the symptoms she was suffering from. She was able to learn some powerful coping skills and healthier ways of thinking which gradually helped her regain a sense of control and hope for her life. She is still on her journey, but we celebrate how far she has come thus far!

Marissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to “help people” for a living. So many of us feel disconnected from ourselves and others. I am passionate about helping people discover their own inner strength and healing. Integrated Therapy Services is about helping people integrate their mind, body and spirit to feel whole again. I believe we all have the ability to heal no matter what we’ve been through.
Clients come to me looking for a therapist who can provide them with a safe and accepting space to share their struggles and gain helpful insights into their situations. Therapy should be a place where you feel heard and understood. We go at a pace the client feels comfortable with, and together we work towards the goals that they desire for their lives.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Other than training/knowledge, I think having the ability to empathize is most important for succeeding in my field. Empathy is the compassion and understanding we can give to another. Empathy is our ability to understand how someone feels and see a situation from their perspective. If we can empathize with another, we can offer insights and most of all, interventions that are within people’s ability to connect with and achieve.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would absolutely choose the same profession. Though my professional journey had many twists and turns along the way, I can see now how each step built upon the last.
