We recently connected with Stanley Owings and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Stanley , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I remember being very young and walking into the cosmetics department in a big retail store and noticing male makeup artists at a few of the cosmetics counters. I was fascinated. It was the first time I visualized a career in the beauty industry. This was especially exciting for me because as someone who was born DIFFERENT, I had never felt like I could see myself in a normal 9-5 job or career. So, it was so exciting and promising to see there could be a future for me in beauty.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
It’s all began with my disdain and hatred towards school. LOL! For real though, as a creative person, school was always a challenge for me. I’d rather be creating something beautiful instead of solving a math equation — I HATE MATH! So after two years of college which I found dreadful, I dropped out and took some some time to regroup. During that time, I ended up interviewing for a job with an up and coming beauty brand and immediately got the job! Long story short, it was literally the “law of place” at work in my life. The moment I moved on from a place I wasn’t meant to be any longer (college), doors opened to where I was supposed to be — the beauty industry! My career took off and I’ve never looked back. I’ve traveled internationally and all over the U. S. as Lead Makeup Artist for some of the beauty industry’s biggest beauty brands. Ultimately my passion for making women look good and FEEL GOOD, led me to creating my own brand iMpactcolorcosmetics.com.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being an entrepreneur and creative is not for the faint of heart. It takes grit! I’ve overcome so many obstacles and what I’ve learned is that no matter the challenge, you must always keep moving forward. One of my biggest challenges is as a small niche brand, many times order processing and shipping can take longer than I or my clients like. The GREATEST THING I’VE LEARNED about running a business over the past 15 years is that communication is KEY! Clients are much more likely to be understanding and patient as long as you communicate effectively. Don’t leave folks hanging. Be honest, upfront and kind. I would’ve never made it this long if I’d not been laser focused on communication!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal and mission is to always use my gifts to inspire, motivate and make everyone’s life my business/ministry touches BETTER!
