Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rochelle Jones . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Rochelle , thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Becoming successful…I believe success is reaching your goals. By that I mean becoming truly confident within yourself to achieve your dreams.
Whatever you want you can truly achieve.
Believe it!
When I first started in the hair industry, I knew I couldn’t remain a. Shampoo/assistant however I needed to learn the basics.
As the years passed I took my time and set realistic expectations to reach my own personal level of success.
Now I have my own salon offering 11 stylists to be their own boss in an upscale, diverse salon.
Success is something most believe comes over night because they don’t really understand the process.
There is usually tons of work and time that goes into the success that you see later…
Remaining productive, consistent and confident in you’re progress will always lead to success
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I began my hair journey in high school Coloring my friends in mom’s kitchen …
Which led me to hair school (I went to cosmetology school to support a friend..and ended up loving it).
2010 I began working as an assistant at a salon in downtown Detroit. That’s when I knew I would never treat my assistant the way I was treated. That was definitely my que to quit and get my own business.
I worked at a salon as a stylist in 2012…eventually growing into my own salon space Which I couldn’t believe I was in a store front and it was Mine…
And now currently I have an even bigger store front salon.. I can say I’m hiring and yes I love it here!
Growing up mixed my mom struggled with finding a stylist who could confidently cut my hair … I wanted to be the stylist who catered to all hair textures. I pride myself in being able to handle all hair textures and my clients love it … being diverse is really important to me.
I have tons of moms who trust me with their children’s mixed hair texture
I love that they do,
it makes me feel so happy that I can be what someone was not for me!
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
It’s so crazy! Doing hair was something I didn’t plan on doing long term it was suppose to be my side hustle to help me through law school.
Yes I was in college while attending cosmetology school but I fell in love with this industry.
I did finish college obtained a degree but I never went back for law.
Money was coming so fast I was young and I loved being my own boss!
Here I am 14 years later still exploring this industry as well as learning new things along the way.
I get bored fast I needed something that will keep me on my toes and law is law so needless to say I was bored in college!
I’m glad my side hustle became my career there’s no limit in this industry
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My clientele comes from word of mouth.
I tell my clients you are a walking billboard for me … share my information please if someone ask.
I started building my business before social media so to this day I live the old school way the most!
I give my existing clients money off their services when they send people to me.
The reward system works best for me
