We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful John Barajas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with John below.
John, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Growing up my father was pretty absent majority of my childhood and didn’t become involved until my adult years. However my mother was and continues today to be an inspiration to overcome any obstacle. Seeing her raise five kids without the support of her spouse, gave me such an insight to be independent. She did it all and managed everyone’s schedule like clock work. PTO President, team mom, volunteer, all the activities you name she did it. Her drive, determination, and love is one of the many reasons I continue pushing everyday to be the best versions of myself. Without the support of her and grandparents I’m not sure I would have accomplished as much as I currently have.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi everyone my name is John Barajas, originally a Chicago native who moved to Dallas earlier this summer. My companies are Legacy Choreography and Blonde Bombshell Apparel. Legacy got started back in 2016 on accident. I was taking more clients that were no longer my friends and getting requests for the business name. We offer customized choreography and skills camps for cheer/dance teams throughout the US. Blonde Bombshell was a play off a nickname and wanting to create a branded image. It’s a small apparel line selling shirts, hats, beanies, and shot glasses. Its gender neutral and all manufactured here.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Instagram! Creating a branded image and video content has improved our following/client reach.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I definitely had this as a side hustle that I never expected to scale the way it has. Covid was the turning point where I realized now is the time to transition if I want to make this full time. Luckily I’ve been blessed to say I travel weekly and work with the clients I do but the pandemic was the milestone to change my mindset. It has not been an easy ride but thankful for the adventures I’ve had thus far.
