Jake, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I got started in the IT business back when Prodgity

Jake, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the IT business by accident. In fact, I barely got out of high school. I was so bored with the routine that I found myself looking for ways to avoid high school. I had way too many missed days one semester that I found myself having to stay after school or doing extra assignments to make up those days. I don’t recall how I discovered it, but I found a way to graduate from high school by attending college classes that would count for double credits. That was my saving grace. I applied myself to that goal and was 1 out of 5 that was to become the first Goose Creek ISD early graduation program. I graduated from high school in 3 years.
I then went to the Philippines for a mission for my church. During these years of service, I discovered on the importance of seeing things through. I also learned how to speak Tagalog which gave me a boost of confidence as I took 3 years of Spanish in high school yet still couldn’t order off a Taco Bell menu. It also taught me to multi task in many of the areas that are required to be successful not only in life but in business as well.
Once in college, good old ADHD returned. In high school, I was diagnosed with ADHD which explained the difficulties of getting through a structured routine. When I got to Sam Houston State, I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to be all I know is that I wanted a degree with the least amount of math and I wanted a college degree. During my Junior year, luck would so be that my modem on my computer would be struck by lightning. Not a direct strike but some where outside, a telephone line would get struck and that bolt would sizzle its way to my modem. I was in a jam. The procrastinator I was was 25 hours away from having to turn in a research paper. I needed to get on the library system to pull sources but it was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday so the only way to do that was via the web. I soon discovered that the light bolt rendered my ability to do that. The only place to take my computer was a company called Circuit City. The “tech” said i would have to send the pc off to their main tech center and get it fixed. No way was that happening in 25 hours. I asked him to wait and let me look at the new pcs. While walking around the PC section, I saw a box that stated it had a plug n play modem in it. All one would have to do was pop this modem in and tada, you wold be on the internet. I knew enough that the modem was the key to the internet and mine was dead. I didn’t know that a modem was a part. I didn’t know that many parts make up a computer. In fact I really didn’t know anything about a computer or how it worked. I did know that this modem in a box may help me finish a research paper.
I took the pc and modem back to my college apartment. I carefully opened the pc and removed the old modem.. I placed the new one in, turned the pc on and fired up AOL. I was greeted by “you got mail’. I felt like a kid opening up a christmas gift i had always wanted. Not only was I able to finish up a paper, I was able to find a career. Technology is changing daily. I can honestly say that in the 30 years i’ve worked in the industry I’m still learning something everyday. I’ve not once been bored nor complained about having to go to work.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Hands down, the best source of new clients is by word of mouth. Second source would be google. Learning SEO helped me land my business on the first page of search pages.

If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
I’m asked often if we do this, or if we do that. Of course we do I answered. I’d answer yes to anything often say if you pay me enough, I’ll even mow your lawn. So yes, we have many revenue streams. We offer cloud storage, web hosting, web design and many other IT related services.
