We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Rapp recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project that I worked on would be a maternity shoot for a newlywed couple, that was expecting their first baby! They had no clue what the gender would be and just genuinely in-love with whoever and whatever this child would be.
These clients drover over an hour and a half in order to complete the shoot. Once they arrived, we got started right away. They shared some of their cultural traditions with me as we implemented them into the photographs. Once finished, there was a crowd of people watching the whole thing! They started clapping and exclaiming how beautiful this was to watch.
The photos were blown up and used as full size wall pieces for their baby shower, and the clients were amazed with how beautiful these captured moments were!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a family and lifestyle photographer, who also happens to be a full time mom of two beautiful girls, and a Family Law Paralegal (busy busy busy!)
I started in the photography field with my sister in law. She introduced me into editing other photographers photos and catalogs. Once I really got that under my belt, my wife purchased a professional camera and saw me on my way!
One thing that I think truly sets me apart from others is my adaptability. To me, yes this is a business, but this is also creating a relationship with your clients, and being adaptable to their wants and needs.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I started this business, I had big dreams to quit my full time job, be a stay at home mom with my two little ones, and just take pictures for people. I quickly had to realize that was not an option, at least for right now. My girls needed stability and our family was just not able to give up stable income for that uncertainty.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Definitely the clients. I love learning about their families and truly being able to create something that they get to cherish forever!
