Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marcel Ferrin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marcel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I think Acting is such a unique craft, because there are 1000 different ways to go about it and there is no right way. Many acting professors or teachers have their own style of Acting and I think actors should be encouraged to learn as many as they can and see what technique or style best benefits them. I think an important thing for an actor to do is to live their personal life to the fullest. That way they can gain experience. I believe good life experience can make for a better actor.. going through trials and tribulations, heartbreaks and hardships, give you more character
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an artist I mainly perform in theaters as an actor I do commercial work as well. I also perform in a band and perform for gigs. I think either early age I always felt I was an entertainer. I would have professors tell me how funny I was and how they would see me in TV and I guess I never went after the dream until I was in my early 20s when I began to study Acting at Southwestern College. I think what separates me from other actors is my intuitiveness.. I trust my instincts, and I feel as if I am a chameleon and I can adapt into any environment and I work well with anybody. I do not think I take things personal, and I am pretty light hearted. I feel comedy is my strong suit, but I can also be very dramatic. I feel I am well balanced. I can fit or be any character there. Any future Director needs.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think for me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is making great work that I enjoy. I think a lot of time as artist we care a lot about the opinions of others and peers, and we care more about, or put more of an emphasis on their opinions that our own. Being able to collaborate with great minds, I think is the best reward. It also does feel nice to have your friends and family admire the work you do and be very supportive and proud of the work you do because as we all know, being an artist is extremely difficult, and it is a very tough career to make a living off of.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think this is a great question because it brings up the discussion of what we as a community can do to help support local artists. I think this platform specifically is a great opportunity to showcase artists and help gauge with audiences locally to come and support fellow artists. I think social media is huge. I do think a lot of the times people aren’t aware of events, and I think the more events can be shown to people whether that be through social media or through advertisements or posters on the streets the more people are likely to come because I do believe people would like to come. It would be nice if there could be some sort of organizations or funds that help all artists and directors and workers of the organizations to help us rent spaces and better pay our actors
