We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Khrissy Briscoe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Khrissy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Learning the craft is so important. Always be a student of the game and willing to be open minded. Find someone you admire or are inspired by and follow their blueprint. In my opinion these steps are a key to success.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m from Los Angeles, the Crenshaw district. I always had a strong admiration for music. Hip-Hop was my first intro to music growing up. when I was in High School I loved watching 106 & Park, TRL and Sway. I always would say “I want to be like Free”. I thought interviewing artists was super cool. I then use to seek how to be like Free and interview artists but never found any resources or platforms that provided that. Bringing us up to speed, in 2017 I started my platform Music N Media, with the idea of providing a platform for anyone that wants to break into the music/media industry can learn from professionals. 7 years into now I’ve had some of the most prestigious and notable execs, DJ’s, A&R’s plus more. Creating my own platform was the start of me learning the in’s and out’s to event production. I’ve learned so much by producing my own events I then started to work as a production assistant for other notable brands like Amazon in collaboration with Leimert Park Juneteenth and Essence.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
It’s so important to remember your “WHY”. When I’m feeling un-motivated and ready to throw in the towel I go back to my WHY did I start. I don’t give up on myself, I always remember where I started and how far I’ve come. Now that I’ve been consistently at it for 7 + years I have a lot of people motivated and inspired by my journey. It’s really my journey of resilience.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I come from the era where their wasn’t any social media. I have great communication and peoples skills and I’m not afraid of face to face interactions. It’s so important in my opinion for us to get back to the basics. Yes we’re living in a social media era which has definitely helped my platform grow, but to my point use your social media platform to interact. reach out to people outside of your network, don’t be afraid to send that DM, leave comments and meet new individuals. The only way to expand your reach and your brand is to continue to network outside of your immediate circle.
