Khalilah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?

Learning candle making during the pandemic was a great way to engage in a creative and productive activity. I started by researching different candle making techniques online, gathering the necessary materials such as wax, wicks, and fragrances, and researching the proper techniques in creating a high quality product.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I began my candle making journey at the beginning of the pandemic. I was in search of an outlet outside of working, school and family. Candle making became my “me time”. Through this journey my business, Naked Scents Candle Co., was created. The business was created to promote self-care through aromatherapy. Our products includes luxe non-toxic custom blended scented candles with crackling wooden wicks, room sprays, and bath essentials..

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is connecting with my target audience. It’s a pleasure to hear testimonials of how my products have played an impactful part of an individual’s moments. It is a joy to see repeat customers return to purchase from our company and share their feedback.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

This year has been a full of challenges from being present from my family, working a full-time job, finishing up my college degree and running a business. Honestly, there were times I felt defeated and overwhelmed with trying to balance everything. However, I knew that I had to keep pushing became all of my efforts would pay off. I was able to graduate from college, balance family and work, and focus on scaling my business. I am proud of myself for staying the course.
