We were lucky to catch up with Angela Montano recently and have shared our conversation below.

Angela, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Can you share an anecdote or story from your schooling/training that you feel illustrates what the overall experience was like?

When I received my license in 1994, it was after completing a 4 year training program at The Agape International Spiritual Center. Most of the classes then were taught by Rev. Michael Beckwith and the late Rev. Nirvana Gayle. Their passionate insights and teaching about prayer changed my life. It was an incredible thing to study deeply for 4 years. Everything ultimately centered around cultivating a perception of wholeness. No matter what is happening in your life, if you can go deep deep within, you will start to SEE how there is a Wholeness that can be trusted. This awareness is what I go to over and over again with each client and with the ReThink Prayer movement as a whole.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I began my career as a television news reporter at WPDE-TV in Florence, South Carolina and then, as a producer and on-air host of Carolina Journal for SCETV. In the hundreds of news segments I delivered, I felt something deeper occurring than the surface narrative I was delivering to the television audiences.

My desire to understand this Stillness, this Presence that I could feel no matter what the story – whether it was a fire, a car accident, a murder, or political scandal…it just kept sort of calling me. This led me to a study of mysticism and eventually to Agape. I started taking classes there and before I knew it I had found my calling as a licensed spiritual practitioner.

I have been working with people of different faiths and belief systems from all over the world since 1994 and have witnessed and participated in the miracles that occur through prayer.

Today I am a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator as well as host of the popular podcast The Angela Montano Hour: Prayer on the Air with listeners from over 52 countries. I consider my global audience a prayer collective – a cell in the heart of humanity – whose purpose it is to lift one another and the world in prayer.

I am also the author of Daily OM’s best-selling course 21 Days of Prayer to Change Your Life, with over 33,000 students enrolled across the globe.

Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.

My course, 21 Days of Prayer to Change Your Life is offered through an online content provider. Eventually the website was sold by a much bigger company. They were offering a buyout for the course as the deal was being inked. I did not think the buyout was representative of the value of my course, so I did not take the buyout. I assumed I would shop my online course to other providers of this kind of content. For months I did nothing. Finally once the deal was settled, I reached out and spoke to someone at the big corporation and they agreed to honor my original royalty sharing agreement. It was a good lesson for me. Sometimes, just wait and do nothing until you are really moved. Sometimes things have a way of working out on their own, with prayer and intention and a willingness to take action when moved to do so.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

A lesson I have had to UNLEARN is about STRIVING. My father gave me great advise growing up, He always said, “Honey just do your best.” I took that to heart and made a habit out of doing my best. Unfortunately, I often imagined in hind sight, I could have done better, should have done better and doubted that my best was good enough. To unlearn that doubt, to give that to my Higher Power is a humbling and important part of my journey.
