We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nechole Culp. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nechole below.
Nechole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
As a business owner, I feel stepping away and taking a break is a must. I make an effort to schedule quarterly get aways. In the past I have recruited a friend, contract worker, employee or family member and trained them to run the office and business while I am away. I also have an amazing staff that assist in any areas of need. Rest, self-care and rejuvenation is important as a business owner. Often we become business owners so that we will have the freedom to set our own schedules and have more freedom. However, when it all boils down to you, it is easy to over work, be consumed and get burn out. Schedule and plan time to step away. Vacations do not need to be expensive or lengthy. Sometimes I just go camping for a few days. The key is to make time to relax and enjoy life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I own Wine & Canvas Studios in Lansing, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. We teach step by step painting events in a fun artsy environment. We host public and private events in studio and in local venues and travel for home parties, corporate events and so much more! We all look forward to every event as it brings art entertainment and creativity to our community. I absolutely love that anyone can walk in without a stroke of painting experience and follow along with the step by step process and go home with their own creation. The paintings on our calendars are designed and created by our Wine & Canvas Artists. As artists we find inspiration everywhere. I enjoy seeing the artistic process in the artist and in the customers. It is an amazing opportunity to have this avenue to continually share our artwork.

How did you build your audience on social media?
It takes time and commitment to build an audience on social media. Stay consistent and relevant with your posts. If possible schedule posts ahead. Including the social media links in your communication helps grow your business and online presence.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I highly recommend the books; Think and Grow Rich, Profit First and The Code of the Extraordinary Mind. These books guided me in adjusting my mind set and thinking. They helped me assess risk, evaluate dreams and plan.
