We recently connected with Alexus Pittman and have shared our conversation below.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Alexus and my business name is Handspun Delights. I have a spiritual shop where I make and sell candles and I also make and sell bath and body products like body butters, body scrubs, soaps and more! I believe that the world needs to be introduced to products that are handmade and created with love. I love to create these things within my business because I know that it brings my customers joy. When they open the package and send me a photo saying their package has arrived I can sense the happiness from them and this too makes me very happy as well. I got into my business because it excites me to see people joyous of the things I create for them.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first started out I would book vending events along so I could make money. I remember attending an event where the vending fee was very expensive but I said to myself I’ll make the money back. When I went to the event the event was so dry. Nobody came to support any of the vendors we just all ended up buying from one another to make light of the situation. Instead of me being mad about this situation I sat and observed. This person has a big event space and it was set up really nice but she wasn’t doing anything with it. I said to myself when I finally get my business building I will have events of my own and they will sell out because I’ll do xy and z. Every since then it made me go harder because I really want my own business building so bad and I know I’m going to get that soon.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
So again back when I was doing my events really heavy early in my business career I decided to do something I never did in life. I created flyers and I text messaged everyone in my phone letting them know to come out to the event. Well nobody responded and the one person who did respond said I had the wrong number. When I went to the event I used the same sale I used in the flyer and I sold 80% of my products I made a lot of money and I was very satisfied. I made lots of new customers that day. It just goes to show you sometimes you can’t rely on people you know to support you have to get out here in your community and get up close and personal with new customers so that they can support you and deal with you based off the type of vibe they get when they meet you and see your products right in front of them. It truly is a feeling like no other. In business there is always a lesson to be learned.
