Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nishanth Shri Shiva. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nishanth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
I would say that the time I’ve invested and the professional connections I’ve built have been the most significant investments I’ve made in my life so far. It’s become clear to me that my commitment to showing up for work when I’m hired is not only crucial for my job but also for my own aspirations and goals. Creating the same level of accountability when I’m not externally supervised can be tough, but it’s crucial for me to hold myself responsible for how I manage my time and approach my work. This commitment will play a pivotal role in shaping the career and business I’m striving to build.
Being an artist can often feel like a solitary journey, but having the right group of like-minded individuals who share my level of focus provides me with a strong motivation to keep pursuing my ambitions and never give up. These connections and mutual support are where I draw the strength to persevere.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Nishanth Shri Shiva, and my journey in the creative industry has taken me on a fascinating path. I wear multiple hats as a Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor, and Colorist, working internationally, primarily between the USA and India. My portfolio boasts a diverse range of projects, including multi-award-winning narrative features, shorts, commercials, and music videos.
My journey began with a background in design during my undergraduate years, and I later pursued a master’s degree in cinematography. Initially, I started my career as a UX designer but gradually found my passion in post-production work. This transition led me to numerous projects where I was not only shooting but also responsible for producing and delivering high-quality content.
One of my proudest achievements is being an alumnus of the Gold Rising Program, an initiative by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences. Currently, I have the privilege of being under the mentorship of the Oscar-winning Writer, Director, and Producer, Spike Jonze.
In 2017, I took a significant step by founding “Purple Glitch,” a global multimedia production house. Our team at Purple Glitch comprises of highly experienced and qualified creative professionals who offer end-to-end solutions for all media requirements, including films, commercials, and music videos. Moreover, we provide creative and technical consultations to help clients prepare for their dream projects.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Certainly! Let me share a story from my journey that, I believe, truly embodies my resilience. When I first arrived in Los Angeles, everything felt incredibly new and different. Despite having a background in the media industry in India, the workflows and protocols in the U.S. were a whole new world for me. I was determined to adapt quickly and driven by curiosity.
During my initial days in graduate school, I embarked on a rigorous schedule. I would often find myself on night shoots, immersing myself in practical experiences, only to show up for class the very next day. To add to the challenge, I was enrolled in an accelerated program that left me with little time to spare between classes. The constant stream of assignments and film projects for my coursework kept me on my toes.
My insatiable hunger to gain experience and learn every nuance of my craft pushed me to extremes. I was constantly trying to catch up with my peers, leading to a relentless cycle of night shoots followed by packed days of classes. On weekends, I’d be prepping for upcoming shoots, all while squeezing in time to finish assignments amidst my shoot schedules and classes.
It was undeniably exhausting, but the exposure and knowledge I gained during that intense period have proven to be invaluable throughout my career and business to this day. This experience not only shaped my resilience but also became the foundation of my journey, enabling me to navigate the industry with confidence and adaptability. If another chance like this presents itself to better my craft, I would do it all over again.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
When it comes to building a reputation within my market, many might assume it’s solely about the level of skillset, experience, or the quality of work delivered. While these factors are undoubtedly important, in my experience, it’s been the emphasis on reliability and communication that has truly set the stage for me.
Building trust and comfort with my clients has been paramount. It’s the reason why I see many of my clients return to collaborate with me repeatedly, often turning these relationships into long-term partnerships. The trust I’ve cultivated among my clients is not only instrumental in retaining their business but also in expanding my network through word-of-mouth referrals. This organic approach to growing my client base has led me to exciting new projects and opportunities, proving that, in addition to skill and quality, reliability and effective communication play a significant role in establishing a solid reputation within my market.
