We recently connected with Makenna Tuttle and have shared our conversation below.
Makenna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am! I love what I do, and can’t imagine doing anything else. I like being able to create my own schedule, which is somethng a day job doesn’t allow. I also like having an outlet to be creative, and work with other creatives in the industry!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a freelance film producer, and I help Directors bring their films to life logistically whether that’s through a short film, a commercial, or a music video! I fell into producing back in college, and I just love being able to tackle multiple tasks at once, and being that “go-to” person for the Director. Making movies is hard, and I want my Directors to feel supported and heard, through every step of the process all the way to completion.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want to be someone people can look up to and feel like they can chase their dreams. As someone with a Disability, I never saw people who looked like me working in the industry as a kid, and I want to be that person for people who look like me!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
People often wonder how we deal with the inconsistency of work. But honestly, it is a trade off to be able to do what you love everyday AND get paid for it. It is something that gets easier to manage with time, as you move up in your career. But I love what I do, and wouldn’t trade it for consistency.
