We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brianna ‘B.B.’ Sherrodd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna ‘B.B.’, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I first realized that I wanted to pursue a path in music professionally after a very inspiring experience when I was 19 years old. I used to post a lot of bass covers around that time, so naturally, a lot of the bands I covered saw and acknowledged my videos. I ended up getting the chance to play a song called “Yeah Yeah Yeah” on stage with the band New Politics. After experiencing what it was like to have such a huge crowd in the audience, jumping and singing along, it made me realize that this is exactly what I wanted to do. Even though it obviously wasn’t a song I wrote myself, it still felt so inspiring.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I currently play guitar and sing in my original rock band The Drained. I used to play bass and sing, but after some lineup changes, I ended up on guitar. I am joined by my talented friends and bandmates Rudy (drums), Troy (keys), Isaiah (guitar), and Kaden (bass). I have been making music for this band since 2019, but really only started taking it seriously more recently. We have released 3 songs in the past year (“Coral Blue,” “Queen’s Castle,” and “That Day”). I’m happy to share that we have so many plans for the upcoming year that I hope we’re able to get to everything!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Honestly, not really, I just want to be happy and write songs that I enjoy. I would love to tour with The Drained, and I know it’s very likely that this will happen, but as far as right now goes, I just want to put out some content that I would enjoy from a fan’s perspective. I feel like I’m constantly consuming content from bands, like interviews and live sessions. I just want to do that too.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I try to be authentic as possible. I just finished my Bachelor’s program in marketing and advertising, so I’ve learned a lot that I’ve been trying to incorporate into our own social media. I think authenticity is more important than creating content just to be seen. I always try to base my content and my band’s content on what I would like to see from the people I respect. Quality over quantity for sure.
